State law requires each person elected or appointed for the first time to a position of a municipality to attend an institute for municipal officials. The NOI teaches the statutorily required topics such as Municipal Budget Requirements, the Oklahoma Open Meeting Act, the Oklahoma Open Records Act, Ethics, Procedures for Conducting Meetings, Conflict of Interest, and Purchasing Procedures

Oklahoma experts are coming together to present the "Nuts & Bolts Help in the Real World" employment seminar. This one-day event will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Rose State College and will cover topics such as: Fair Labor Standards Act, Drug Testing, Social Media & Internet Security, Do's and Don'ts of Discipline & Termination and HR Basics. (
This seminar is eligible for six credit hours in the OML Certified Municipal Official Program.)

"If I Were Mayor..." Essay Contest Entries Being Accepted

Essays must be received no later than December 16, 2016
The Mayors Council of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Municipal League invite 8th graders from home schools, public schools and private schools throughout Oklahoma to participate in a statewide essay contest, "If I Were Mayor, I Would ..." to tell others what they would do as mayor to make their city or town a better place to live.
