DEVICE USER AGREEMENTDEVICE
On Wednesday, October 26, 2016, Milton High School begin the deployment of the Microsoft Surface 3 tablet for those students who have:
  1. Completed their DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP COURSE REQUIREMENTS
(provided to all students during study hall in September)
  2. Completed/returned the DEVICE USER AGREEMENT for both the student and parent (process below)
In order to expedite the process, we will be using a platform called ZippSLIPZippSLIP allows us to collect digital signatures from parent and students on the REQUIRED Device User Agreement form. You will be required to create your PARENT account to use this platform. It is FREE and takes only a few minutes to set up.

We ask that, when you are ready to sign off on the Device User Agreement, you have your student(s) with you to ensure they are aware of their responsibilities regarding their school issued Microsoft Surface 3.

Parents need to set up their ZippSLIP (electronic signature) Account and sign off (with student) on Device User Agreement by Monday, October 24, 2016 in order for your student(s) to get their device on Wednesday, October 26, 2016. Please see the information below to set up your parent account and sign off on the Device User Agreement:
  1. Read/watch the instructions for setting up ZippSLIP Parent Account -  pdf version-click: HERE/ video version - click:  HERE
  2. Goto the ZippSLIP website:  http://bit.ly/2edXAt4
  3. QUESTIONS? Contact Mr. Justin Bacile ([email protected]) or 470-254-2889
You also have the option of printing, signing, and returning the Device User Agreement form to the main office by Monday, October 24, 2016.

INSURANCE
Parents can choose to purchase insurance for the Microsoft Surface. Many insurance companies ask families to mail devices directly to the company for repair/replacement. Parents MAY ONLY use insurance companies with repair centers authorized by the device manufacturer, to avoid voiding our warranties.

Fulton has looked into insurance companies that have been popular with families and confirmed that as of June 2016:  Worth Ave Group  uses authorized repair centers for ALL of our devices so this may be an option for families.

If you are having difficulties setting up your account or need assistance/questions answered, please contact Mr. Justin Bacile at  [email protected] or 470-254-2889.

MILTON THEATRE WINS BEST SHOWMHSBEST
Congratulations to the cast, crew, and directors of STARMITES, THE MUSICAL for being chosen as Best Show this past weekend at Georgia Theatre Conference (GTC).  The production now advances to Southeastern Theatre Conference in Louisville, Kentucky in March of next year where it will compete in the Secondary Play Festival with shows from nine other states in the Conference.  Additional recognitions include Owen Smith selected as one of only 10 All-Star Cast Members from all of the competing schools, and Josh Martin who was awarded Best Supporting Actor.  STARMITES is the inaugural production of Milton Theatre's new teacher/director, David Hopkins.  Also, this show served as half of the cast members' first Milton production. During our adjudication, the judges commented on the excellent choreography ( Brittany Willet), exceptional ensemble work, multi-functional set (thanks Sim Jones), characterizations, and vocal talents ( Bill Newberry, Musical Direction). Another component of GTC is the opportunity to audition for colleges.  Six of our actors participated in this and each was selected by nearly all of the schools doing screenings to return for callbacks.  It was a good weekend for Milton!
MILTON THEATRE PRODUCTIONTHEATRE
Milton Theatre Company invites you to come share an hour with a pirate, an evil king, orphans and starstuff at Milton Theatre's presentation of "Peter and the Starcatcher" on October 25 & 26, 7:30PM. Tickets are available online www.miltontheatrecompany.com ($10 / $12) and will also be sold at the door. This is Milton Theatre's Georgia High School Association (GHSA) One Act competition piece. You don't want to miss this epic show set as a prequel to Peter Pan in a fantasy world with adventure galore. Milton High School is also hosting the GHSA Regional Competition, October 29, 2016.
FROM THE SUMMITSUMMIT
4 Ways to Stay Mindful and Manage Stress
Mindfulness is the practice of fully engaging in and being aware of the present moment, being nonjudgmental, and not clinging to moments including thoughts and emotions. Mindfulness helps lower anxiety, stress, and depression by enhancing an individual's mind and body connection which improves understanding of emotions and thoughts. Wanting to try mindfulness? Keep reading to get tips on getting started.

1. Re-focus when you're feeling distracted
Mindfulness can help you reset your focus to work on the task at hand and pay attention to one thing at a time. When you're focusing on one thing at a time you will be less likely to be lost in thought of focusing on your worries. In our fast paced world, we are so used to multitasking. Try focusing on only one thing at a time. Yes, you heard me! That means putting away your phone when you are having a conversation, watching a TV program, or sending an email!
2. Stay in the present moment
Practicing mindfulness helps you keep your thoughts in the current moment. Try observing your surroundings, describing what's in your environment, and/or fully participating in an activity of your choice.
3. Let it in and let it go!
Acknowledge the feelings and thoughts you are experiencing that are taking away from the present moment, but don't cling to them. Allow them to come and go freely. You can imagine that the feelings and thoughts are being washed away by the ocean, floating away down a river, moving by with a cloud, or another image of your choosing. This allows you to have thoughts and feelings without getting stuck or distracted.
4. Practice Non-judgment
When you judge yourself or others you unintentionally create ineffective thoughts and feelings such as feelings of shame or guilt. Instead of labeling experiences as "good" or "bad", try saying exactly what you mean. What is good to one person may be bad to another. Replace "I did so badly on the test" with "I don't like my grade on the test" or "I'm awful at relationships" with "I don't like my behaviors in relationships." Saying what you mean helps you express yourself, understand yourself, and ultimately identify what you want to change.

If you are having difficulty managing your emotions try incorporating mindfulness into your daily life. You can do this 10 minutes a day by practicing centering prayer, meditation, guided imagery, or simply observing your breathing. Mindfulness helps teach us to pause and check in with ourselves in a non-judgmental and accepting way.

Dialectical behavior therapy is a unique treatment that incorporates mindfulness. If you or your loved one are struggling with relationships, regulating emotions, or have difficulty managing distress make an appointment with a Summit School-based Therapist and Intensively Trained DBT clinician located in Milton High School. Make an appointment by calling 678-893-5300 or visiting www.summitcounseling.org!

COLLEGE ADMISSION INFORMATIONCOLLEGEINFO
When it comes to college admissions, everyone has the same question: "What are my chances of getting in?" The answer is not always clear, partly due to the way colleges admit students. The most important data is not what you see posted on the school's website, rather it is data that represents the admission decisions of ACTUAL Milton students. We are implementing a new process to begin accumulating meaningful data that will help guide families through college applications.

STEP 1 - Complete the Senior Advisement Form
This will help your Counselor and the College and Career Center assist students with picking schools and planning applications.

If you have not completed this form it can be found here: https://goo.gl/forms/7PKWVGByxowjbykj1

STEP 2 - Complete the Milton High School College Decision Form
This form needs to be completed for each school to which you apply whether you are accepted, denied or deferred. You will be able to go back and edit this form as you receive admission decisions and scholarships, and then again when you decide which school you will attend.

This form can be found here:
https://goo.gl/forms/0aT0wJLpfL1Ge5nJ3

Finally, we are launching a new Facebook page to celebrate the Future of Milton 2017. Once you have decided which school you would like to attend, please share a photo and a little bit about your decision to attend that school.
