Issue No. 201610
October 2016

I recently returned from the 2016 DRJ Fall World Conference that was held in Phoenix, Arizona. I enjoyed the opportunity to meet up with other ACP Chapter members and the opportunity to network with other field professionals. This allowed me to "make a deposit" to my knowledge bank and assure that I'm staying abreast of the different changes and platforms that are appearing in the BC/DR circuit. Don't miss out on the opportunity to network with your local chapter peers and share ideas and issues! Be a part of our networking community! Hope to see you at our meeting next week!

Chapter MVP
Last month, members in current standings, received an email from me asking that you participate in the nomination of your chapters' Most Valuable Player. Please take a moment to think about your respective chapter members and how they have brought value to the team and what our organization stands for. You should forward a small write up, only a few sentences will do, Kim Lou  on or before Friday, October 14

Local Chapter Officer Nominations
If you or anyone you know may be a great candidate to work with the elected Chapter Board, I encourage you to send me an email! We are always looking for new faces to join our board, send me an email so that we can see what position best fits their skill set!

ACP National Officer Nominations
Members in good standings should receive information regarding the voting in of new ACP National Officers. Unfortunately, we do not have any familiar "Texas" faces on this year's list of candidates, however, there are some exceptional individuals looking to fill vacant positions. I encourage everyone to be active in the voting process.

Membership Dues Renewal
The time is quickly approaching for members to begin their annual membership dues renewal process. I know that many companies are in the process of completing their 2017 budgets and I ask that you don't forget to include your ACP Membership dues in your numbers! Your membership does count! As we look ahead to 2017, we are excited to bring in better content to our meetings!

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. Data breaches on large companies, internet crimes, hacking into business accounts, etc., have unfortunately become an all too often common thing. I encourage each of you to spend time your family (young kids/young adults) and share with them information on protecting themselves and data via social media and electronic devices. The FBI has provided a website filled with resources to assist in those conversations here. If your role places you in the IT Department, use this opportunity to provide useful tips and other information regarding cyber security to your employees. Does your plan account for cyber-attacks? Does your training include threats to the company social media platforms? Continue to be proactive at home and in the office to help create a safer environment for everyone!

Sincerely,
Alicia Henderson

September's Meeting

Chapter Webinar
7 Phases of Crisis

September we hosted a webinar from Black Swan Solutions as presenter Michelle Colosimo talked about the 7 Phases of Crisis.  All participants were presented the insight and reflections of each phase crisis scenarios traverse thru, and we were provided examples to consider when dealing with crisis in our own work, personal, and social environments.
New Branding

The Association of Contingency Planners, a 33-year old trade organization of Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery, Emergency Management and other professionals in business and community resiliency, has changed its name to the Association of Continuity Professionals (ACP).

"The new name is a better reflection of our membership and the work they do," said ACP National Chair Bonnie Canal, "and positions ACP to continue growing in membership and reach within the industry."

The name change is one piece of a rebranding Canal says is central to ACP's strategic plan. "Our profession and our member professionals are facing new business challenges. As an association we must evolve, continue growing, adding value and providing new support and resources to help them do their jobs," Canal said.

ACP has 2,000 members and 36 Chapters nationwide. "A survey showed strong support for the new name," Canal noted, "89% said 'Go with it'. This is an exciting time for ACP."

The new ACP National website is now online and we hope you will check it out if you have not already done so. As promised, the site has increased functionality, easier navigation and most important, more robust content and interactivity to aid you in your work and your professional development. Specifically, the home page has news and updates from Homeland Security, FEMA, the CDC and other organizations and news sources. Our Ask an Expert blog allows you to get industry-related questions answered by experts in the field. Our members-only forum gives you the opportunity to discuss your work with colleagues and share valuable information.
