New Computer Club at IS: Help Wanted
The IPTSA Board has approved supporting a computer club at International School, and we are looking for parents to help lead the effort.

Campus Improvement Committee
The ISPTSA is creating a Campus Improvement Committee to look at ways the PTSA can improve the look and atmosphere of the campus for our students and staff. We would be looking at adding plantings by the entrance to the school, creating better surroundings for the courtyard by plantings or other accessories and performing other improvements in the school that the committee comes up with.
This committee would meet once or twice a month at the beginning to create ideas and plans for improvements.
Depending on the committee makeup, we will either meet during the day, afternoon or evening. Once plans were created, we would schedule work days, probably one in the fall as time is of the essence in any plantings now and a couple more. The ISPTSA Needs You!
Please consider volunteering for one of these crucial positions to help continue to make our PTSA a strong organization that works toward the goals of serving our International School students, staff and community:
VP Fundraising
Responsible for working with volunteers to organize and manage the Fall and Spring Fundraising campaigns to meet budget revenue goals.

Visit our website keep informed about what is going with ISPTSA including meetings, programs and community events and activities. We hope it will be your home for joining the ISPTSA, volunteering, signing up for the Messenger weekly newsletter and keeping current on what is happening at the school.
Please take a moment to:
1) Create an ISPTSA account or update your current information. We will be using this for directory information. We will also have an online directory which will be available to ISPTSA members.
2) Join the ISPTSA, just click on the link that says Join.
3) Sign up for the Monday Messenger weekly e-newsletter, this is the best way to get the most current information on what is happening at school.
4) Volunteer - There are lots of ways to volunteer, both from home and at school. Parent involvement in creating and staffing programs such as Reflections, Staff Appreciation, Grade level representatives, awarding grants and editing the website is what makes IS unique.
5) Donate - Your donations to the PTSA allows us to invest, approximately $100,000 a year toward the school's mission of academic excellence through a broad spectrum of curriculum extension grants, programs, clubs, and community building.

School Parking
It has come to our attention that parents are parking behind the school and cutting through the kitchen to either pick up their students or take care of business in the office. Please do not park behind the school. Parking is very limited and it makes it extremely difficult for district, delivery vehicles and garbage trucks to get through. And under no circumstances is it okay to cut through the kitchen. Please park in a visitor's spot or find a legal spot in the neighborhood and enter the school at the main entrance. Thank you.

This is just a reminder that 8, 10, and 12 grade students will be taking the Healthy Youth Survey on 10/12. This survey is given district and state wide and gives us terrific information about our community, as well as comparative information about our District. Super Wednesday: Wed. 10/19
As you know from a previous email from Melinda Breeze, our high school students will be doing all kinds of college related testing and work on future planning. Juniors will take the PSAT, sophomores will take the Pre-ACT, and freshmen will take the practice PSAT. Seniors will work on Senior Project all day. Middle school students will have a normal schedule, normal day, although we will work with them to be quieter in hallways and support a great testing environment for our hardworking high schoolers.

Poinsettias for Sale - Order Now!
Would you like a beautiful, easy gift for family, co-workers, friends and teachers this holiday season? Or one-stop shopping for your holiday decor? If so, the IS Senior Class of 2017 has got you covered! We are
continuing the tradition of the popular Poinsettia Fundraiser! (Funds raised are earmarked for the Senior Class' graduation events.) These high quality Squak Mountain flowers are available in red, white, or pink.
They
come in 6.5" pots,
and stand about 14-16" tall. They are priced at $17 each, of course! The form is attached, with more located in the office right next to our Poinsettia Box.

Plants will be available to be picked up at school Monday, Nov. 28th from 3-5 pm

Middle School and High School Students, it's time for the PTA's annual Reflections Program. Entries are judged on creative ability and interpretation of the theme. The Reflections Program is structured for PTAs to recognize students at the local, council, state, and national levels. Entries are first judged at the local level and selected works are chosen to represent the PTA at each subsequent level.
This year's theme is: "What Is Your Story". Only original works of art are accepted. The six areas are: Literature, Music Composition, Photography, Visual Arts, Film/Video, and Choreography/Dance. All entries with an attached student entry form are due to the school office by: November 14th, Monday.

French Exchange
"Bonjour! Are you interested in the French Exchange this year?
We still have five spots open for high school boys who would like to go to France (March 29 - April 13, 2017). We are gearing up to welcome our French exchange students soon (November 30 - December 15, 2016). We are in need of five families willing to host a high school French student during their visit here. TechSmartKids Computer Science Coding Class
TechSmartKids, a
leading provider of K-12 computer science education for is offering before and after school computer science coding classes in Bellevue this fall. No prior coding experience required.
Classes meet once a week for 1.5 hours for 10 weeks and begin the week of October 3rd:
- Fall Session - $425
- Full Year Option - $1,275
Introduction to computer science and coding in Python, a professional general-purpose programming language widely used in
the software industry.

Students learn to design & develop interactive modern websites using professional tools, frameworks and libraries. This course focuses on Front End Web Development and the following primary areas: HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript.

CS401 is the first course in a series of three CS400 level Java Coding courses (CS401, CS402 and CS403) that are designed to introduce students to fundamental computer science concepts and the

programming language. This course is designed for students with no previous coding experience and is designed to be a "gentle" and engaging introduction to computer science and
Java
programming. CS401 will prepare students for the high school AP® Computer Science A class, as well as introductory college computer science classes (such as the University of Washington's CSE142 Computer Programming I class).

Washington Aerospace Scholars (WAS) is seeking high school juniors who wish to kickstart their STEM careers and earn college credit!
In WAS, students earn college credit by completing online curriculum that focuses on space travel. By completing the online program, students may earn acceptance into a week-long Summer Residency at The Museum of Flight where they will work with professional mentors to plan a mission to Mars, tour engineering facilities, and compete in hands-on engineering challenges. Teachers are also encouraged to apply as evaluators and summer residency facilitators.
