Discover Sunday: Welcoming the Stranger

The refugee experience and the Christian response

This event is full and registration is closed.

The world refugee situation is much in the news these days. There are approximately 80,000 refugees in the greater Buffalo community. Meet, greet, and share a traditional meal with refugees being settled in our community by Journey’s End Refugee Services, the local Episcopal Migration Ministries affiliate.

Speakers are:

  • Deacon Joanne Coury Frake and Deacon Tom Tripp from the Episcopal Diocese of WNY who have worked in refugee ministry for over ten years
  • Diaconal Candidate Diana Leiker who has created dinners with ESL students and refugees
  • Deacon William Hynes of St. Benedict RC Church who has co-coordinated a refugee move-in project with St. Peter’s, Eggertsville
  • Claire Ross of Journey’s End
  • Kuresha Noor of Somalia
  • Ze yar Swe of Burma

Refugee foods to be sampled include Iraqi, Burmese, and Ethiopian, provided by commercial ethnic chefs. Forego your Sunday dinner and eat with us!

Pre-registration is required.
