Larkin Community Hospital Opens New Cancer Center

South Miami based
Larkin Community Hospital recently held an open house to celebrate the opening of its new
Cancer Center at Larkin. The new center, led by
Dr. Orlando E. Silva, specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Dr. Silva's patients benefit from his 20 years of experience in Hematology and Oncology, as well as his ongoing research and publications in the field. Treatments available at the center include chemotherapy, biologic agents, and endocrine therapy. In addition to traditional breast cancer treatments, Dr. Silva advocates for the prevention of cancer occurrence and/or reoccurrence through nutrition, anti-inflammatory, and immune system boosting treatments.

BioPitch, the business competition at the annual
BioFlorida conference this month. They are:
- Neuro Pharmalogics in Boca Raton
- Vova Ida in Jupiter
- Sharktec in Davie
Neuro Pharmalogics is a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing innovative therapies for people with rare neurological diseases.
Vova Ida is a startup company dedicated to the discovery and development of drugs to treat neurodegenerative disorders. It is currently developing drugs for the treatment of Alzheimer's and Creutzfeldt-Jakob diseases, based on research conducted at Scripps Florida in Jupiter.
Sharktec is a research development company aimed at providing innovative products for both health-care professionals and consumers related to the changing technology of 3D printing.

Miami Hospital CEO Retires
Brian Bandell | SFBJ
Gilda Baldwin will retire as CEO of
Westchester General Hospital, where she has worked for 24 years.
The 125-bed hospital in Miami named
Jack Ayala as her successor. He's the former COO of
Broward General Medical Center and more recently was a hospital consultant.
