Sunday, October 16,
is the Twenty-Second
Sunday after Pentecost

'Loving the other'. That's what  Reconcile  is about. Who is your other? Republicans/Democrats? The homeless? The rich? People who are black/white/Asian/Latino/Middle Eastern? Gun owners? People with tattoos? Trump supporters? Hillary supporters? People you think are too skinny or overweight? Catholics? Muslims? Jews?
All Saints' Parish in Beverly Hills hosted a night of thoughtful discussion and reflection around this very real challenge. Watch the newly released short film,  Reconcilehere.

Native American Ministry Request for Help:

Truck for Lilly Ann Begaye, a Navajo Social Worker

For over 25 years, our church's Native American Ministry has provided trucks to support Lilly Ann Begaye's mission to help the poor and elderly in the backcountry of the Navajo Reservation. The rough roads take their toll on the trucks and a new one was needed for a cost of $18,000. The Native American ministry at the cathedral are trying to help offset this expenditure with a fundraiser.

The fundraising includes the selling of Shima' soaps produced by Navajo volunteers at Good Shepherd Mission at Fort Defiance, AZ.  Look for the booth in the South Corridor after services on Sunday, or order online.

We would also appreciate financial contributions. Checks should be made out to Christ Church Cathedral with a notation for Native American Ministry.  Thank you for your support.

Support for
Dakota Pipeline Protesters
The Native American Ministry Council is also collecting supplies to help sustain and support the people protesting the North Dakota Access Pipeline (NDAPL), over the coming brutal winter months.

Presiding Bishop Michael Curry after visiting the protesters stated, in part, "The Episcopal Church has a long record of advocating that government, corporations, and other societal players respect the treaty rights of Native peoples. Standing alongside our Sioux brothers and sisters, we continue this legacy today."

What can we do here at Christ Church Cathedral
to stand with our sisters and brothers?
We can write and call our Representatives and state our concern and opposition to the pipeline that threatens the lives and future of the people living at Standing Rock and anyone living along the Missouri River if, or when, the pipeline fails.

There will also be a box available here at the Cathedral so we can collect donations for the people who are
determined to not back down to stay at the site to ensure the pipeline does not go through while legal efforts continue to halt it permanently.

Items needed and greatly appreciated:  Blankets, Hats, Scarves, Gloves, Canvas Tents, Coats, Socks, School Supplies and  First-aid supplies.

We thank you in advance for your support!

United Thank Offering
October 30

Everyone is  encouraged to take and
use a Blue Box daily. Start a new daily spiritual practice of counting your daily blessings. Notice the good things that happen each day. Give thanks to our wonderful God for these blessings by dropping coins or dollars as an offering in the Blue Box.  Your blessings then become blessings for others. All monies received by the United Thank Offering are granted to God's mission in the US and throughout the world. You are  never too old or too young to count your blessings and share your thankful spirit with others.

For this week, please remember and give thanks for those who have positively impacted your life and who love you without condition: teachers, parents, neighbors, and children.

So pick up a Blue Box at the back of the church or in the turnstile near the reception desk. The offering boxes will be collected on Sunday, October 30 , at both services and on Sunday, May 21 , 2017 when the Presiding Bishop visits to bless the beginning of our Bicentennial Celebrations. The traditional ingathering Sundays are near All Saints Sunday and near Ascension Sunday.  If you have questions, feel free to contact Kathy Mank Every generous act of giving is from God. (James 1:7). As God gives to you, remember to give to your United Thank Offering Blue Box.
Educational Issues
November 8

For some time, the cathedral community has partnered with the Amos Project, a consortium of faith communities in Cincinnati, to advocate for the needs of the underserved and under-represented. One of the primary focuses of the Amos Project is education, with an emphasis on the importance of access to quality preschools.

During this election cycle, the Cincinnati Public Schools is proposing a levy which would help CPS maintain quality programs throughout the district and shore up preschool offerings. The Amos Project is supporting this levy, and the Christ Church Cathedral Outreach Committee is echoing this support.

Please review  a fact sheet on the levy and "preschool promise" (available here and at the front desk) and consider supporting the levy when you go to the polls on  November 8 . If you would like to volunteer to spread the word about the importance of this initiative, the fact sheet also provides important information on how you can do so.

All Souls Requiem
November 6

Join us for a service of Holy Eucharist to commemorate all the faithful departed. This liturgy, which will include choral settings of traditional Requiem texts by Malcolm Archer, will be a meaningful time to remember loved ones. If you wish to have the names of loved ones read aloud during the service, see the necrology announcement below.
Reading of the Necrology
November 6

Beginning in the tenth century, as an extension of All Saints' Day, the custom evolved to recite during a service the names of the deceased who are still part of the body of the faithful. This year, we will read those names, called a necrology, on Sunday, November 6 All Saints' Day, at the 10:00 am service and at the 6:00 pm service, which will be a requiem mass, which is a service of Holy Eucharist that remembers the
faithful departed. If you would like to have your deceased loved ones remembered during these services, please submit their names to Kathy Noe by Monday, October 31 . While we know that this is a way to remember all dearly departed family members and friends, we ask that you limit your submission to five names.
