Frances Bronet, Professor of Architecture at Illinois Institute of Technology, and
Alito Alessi, Director of
DanceAbility International, will
give a lecture on how physical and architectural bodies impact each other in their piece “Don’t Leave Me.” Alessi will also visit Somatics and Improvisation classes with students in the Dance program and host a contact improvisation jam later in the evening.

Karen Bradley wins Excellence in Advocacy for the Field of Dance Education award at 2016 NDEO conference
|
|
Professor Karen Bradley was awarded a
President's Award
for a lifetime of work devoted to advocacy through dance. She also presented with Professor
Miriam Phillips
and Dr. Susan Wiesner (Digital Humanist at the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library) on "Reimagining Choreometrics: Access to the World." They were joined by a number of BA and MFA Dance students and alumni.

Helen Huang's Designs Featured by Oregon Shakespeare Festival

Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) were recently featured on OSF's YouTube channel. Cast and crew spoke about the wonderful experience of working with Huang and her creative vision.

- Professor Jennifer Barclay's play, Tight Curls Today, which was produced in NY this past summer, will be published this December in The Best Ten-Minute Plays of 2017, an anthology published by Smith & Kraus.
- MFA Dance candidate Colette Krogol was featured in The Baltimore Sun for teaching ballet to UMD cornerback Alvin Hill.
- TDPS faculty, alumni, and students are working on Kiss at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, playing Oct. 10-Nov. 6: Misha Kachman (Set and Costume Design), Design faculty; Robert Croghan (Associate Costume Design), MFA Design ‘15; Max Doolittle (Lighting Design), MFA Design ‘16; and Kelly Colburn (Projection Design), MFA Design candidate.

- The Charm City Fringe theatre and performing arts festival is in need of staff and volunteers for November. The Fringe is seeking venue managers and front of house staff, as well as volunteers - click the links for more info and applications!
- International High School at Langley Park needs extra help with their weekly drama club meeting, Thursdays from 7:45-8:25. A volunteer student or faculty member would assist a teacher at the school with planning the meeting and facilitating the session. Email Nancy Canales if interested.

Scholarships, Fellowships,
Grants & Competitions
- Call for 10-minute plays! Undergraduate playwrights may submit 10-minute plays for consideration to be selected for the TDPS New Play Workshop. Submissions are due November 1; more information available on the flyer.
- Students traveling to the United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT) conference this spring can apply for travel funds from TDPS. Applications are due to Cary Gillett on October 30.
- The Consortium on Race, Gender and Ethnicity (CRGE) calls for proposals for a $1,000-$2,500 seed grant for dissertations using qualitative methods. Details available here.
