On October 16, 2016,
#IAmAsianAmerican movement aims to register at least 15,000 new voters with a first-ever national concert event taking place in four cities with major Asian American populations: New York, Washington DC, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
#IAmAsianAmerican (www.iamasianamerican.com) - a new organization formed in conjunction with Asian Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote) (www.apiavote.org), Kollaboration (www.kollaboration.org) and 18 Million Rising (18MR.org) - is launching a national campaign to engage Asian American millennials to become active participants in the electoral process.
There are 18 million Asian Americans in the United States, who make up more than 10% of the electorate in 85 Congressional districts. However, only half of Asian Americans are voting and only 36 percent of Asian American millennials vote. View NBC Asian America's most recent writeup of #IAmAsianAmerican. As this is a critical election year, it is important to cast your vote!
The free, star-studded event, will be held at the historic Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles, with performances by Poreotics and The Filharmonic, and featuring guests Hudson Yang and Forrest Wheeler from ABC's Fresh Off the Boat, Pulitzer-winning journalist Jose Antonio Vargas, Albert Tsai from ABC's Dr. Ken, and others. We are also pleased to announce one of KCCD's 15th Anniversary Dinner Co-chairs, Dr. Paul Song as a special guest for the event.
After the Red Carpet event, an after party night market will be available at the Radio Korea Plaza for additional live music performances and food trucks, which include Seoul Sausage Co., Boba Ni Tacos, Rice Balls of Fire, Steamy Bun Truck, White Rabbit, and more.
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday and coming together to make efforts to actively vote in this crucial election year. Please share about the event on Facebook and follow #IAAA on Twitter!
