Director's Note
The Season of Giving

The holiday season is one of the most magical times of the year with cooler weather, hot drinks, food, family and friends, and lots of celebrating.

It's a time to be together and a time for giving thanks. If you think about it, there really is a tremendous amount to be thankful for - a roof over our heads, meals whenever we want them, the latest and greatest in clothing, and people in our lives who support us.

This November, I am inviting you to join us for a season of gratitude as we celebrate, but also create awareness about hunger and homelessness in our community. You see, the holiday can often be a time of sadness, loneliness and invisibility for those who are experiencing homelessness.

We will post a calendar with opportunities to get involved with an activity during Hunger and Homelessness Awareness month. Those opportunities include: hosting/ donating to our food drive scheduled for November 1-18; serving a meal in one of the local food lines; donating gently used clothes, especially jackets, shoes, hats and gloves; wearing a purple ribbon to raise awareness and many, many more ways.

When I count my blessings this holiday season, at the top of my list will be the generosity, passion and dedication of the homebuilding industry and our community partners to ending homelessness for the over 34,000 homeless right here in Southern Nevada.

There are more than 34,000 homeless men, women and children in Southern Nevada. HomeAid Southern Nevada is participating in the national "Homelessness Awareness Month" in November.

Shelter Build Project
Calcattera Circle Transitional Apartments

Newly remodeled transitional housing on Calcattera Circle.

The chapter partnered with Neighborhood Housing Services of Southern Nevada last year to significantly renovate and modernize the apartments.

Richmond American Homes was the build captain on the 489 building. In particular, Justin Bozarth, the VP of construction at Richmond American Homes, led the team that completed the project.

'Hunger & Homelessness
Awareness Month' in November

Each November, HomeAid Southern Nevada works to bring awareness to the issues of hunger and homelessness in our community. With more than 34,000 homeless men, women, children, family, veterans and elderly, there is still a lot of work to be done. That's why HomeAid Southern Nevada is a participant in the national "Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Month" campaign in November.

Here are some ways YOU can get involved:

- Wear a purple ribbon during November to show your support to end hunger and homelessness in our community.

- Host a food drive box in your office, school or company from November 1 to
November 18. Collect non-perishable items that will be donated to our partners, U.S. VETS Las Vegas and Serving Hope Las Vegas.

- Make a contribution to our Hunger & Homelessness Awareness campaign to support the chapter's effort to provide food and shelter to the less fortunate among us.

About 2.5 million children in the United States - 1 in 30 - are experiencing homelessness at some point in their young lives, according to  the

Meet the Board
Amy Thill

How long have you been involved in the homebuilding industry?
More than 20 years. I joined Warmington group in 2001. My current responsibilities include divisional management of sales and marketing, and marketing for apartment portfolio, as well as corporate marketing. I was a marketing specialist at CB Richard Ellis and Colliers International. I earned the "Certified New Home Marketing Professional" designation from the National Association of Home Builders in 2007. I'm a broker-salesperson licensee in Nevada. I earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration in the real estate program at Arizona State University.

Why did you join the HomeAid Southern Nevada board of directors?
An esteemed colleague, Cheryl O'Connor, executive director of the Northern California chapter of HomeAid, spoke highly of the organization and recommended I get involved with my local chapter. That was in 2014, just as a new board was forming, and HomeAid was being reorganized as a non-profit under the SNHBA umbrella. The timing was right and as I looked into it further, I recognized it was a great opportunity to give back to my industry and my community in a way that fostered personal satisfaction and the chance to leverage my skills and expertise in homebuilding.

What has been your involvement in HomeAid over the years?
I was co-chairperson of the "Back to School Success Drive" Committee in 2014 and 2015. The fundraising event collects and assembles "back to school" essentials (hygiene and school supplies) for high school students in need. Last year, I chaired the Marketing Committee, which focuses on all internal marketing endeavors, including the website, social media, public relations and events. I'm a member of the Executive Committee and I serve as board treasurer.

What does 'home' mean to you?
Home to me is more about the feeling than a place. It entails my two daughters, extended family and friends, comfortable surroundings and the special memories we all share, like birthday parties, holidays and travel. Home is where we enjoy these shared experiences. In my life, I am fortunate to consider several places "home." This includes, the state of Maine, where I was raised and my parents still reside, and my current home for the past 20 years in Henderson. What I've learned is that what is most important is the ability to make a house a home. It's the pride you feel and those who inhabit the space that truly make it special. I feel fortunate to be involved in an organization that helps those in need find a place they can call home.

Tell us some fun facts about yourself!
I grew up on the east coast in Maine and now live in and love the desert of Nevada! Yet, my favorite place is the beach. I also love the ocean and my vacation destination of choice is Coronado Island in San Diego County, California.

I am a proud and passionate mom of two daughters, Tatum,12, and Kate, 9. When I am not in the office, touring new home communities, volunteering for HomeAid or at my girls' school as a member of the board of trustees for William McCool Science Center, I can be found on the sidelines of a soccer field, cheering for their teams and rooting for a win! As family, we are super fans of the Arizona State University Sun Devils.

Amy, on the right, is a "hands on" board member who participates
in HomeAid projects.

Amy joined Warmington Residential, Nevada Division in 2001. In 2012, she was tapped to take charge of the corporate marketing efforts for the Warmington group of companies. This role is in addition to her divisional responsibilities. Today, she continues that role as VP of Corporate Marketing and is responsible for developing and executing a clearly defined marketing communications strategy in a manner that supports consistent business growth and enhances brand equity and awareness and strengthens Warmington's position in the marketplace.

Amy oversees the group's in-house advertising agency, W Advertising, and manages all corporate units' marketing functions.

Warmington is a group of synergistic commercial and residential real estate companies. The first Warmington company began as a custom home builder, and the group traces its roots to 1926 when William C. Warmington first gained recognition as a "builder to the stars" in and around Hollywood.

Partner Shoutout!
GE Appliances/Haier Co. and Pulte Homes

HomeAid Southern Nevada salutes GE Appliances and its new parent company, Haier Co., for the generous donation of a new refrigerator for the Project 150 Student Center by the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas at Desert Rose High School. Pictured above is the ribbon cutting ceremony at the new Student Center, which is expected to assist more than 400 homeless and at-risk students at the high school. HomeAid Southern Nevada and Project 150 partner on several projects to assist homeless and at-risk high school students in the community.

HomeAid Southern Nevada also salutes Pulte Homes for donating a new washer and dryer to U.S. VETS-Las Vegas and a new dryer to the CARE Complex. The donations filled a critical need, especially at U.S. VETS, where both the washer and dryer recently broke. U.S. VETS and Care Complex provide significant services to the homeless and previously homeless people in the community.

Both donations are good examples of the "spirit of giving." HomeAid Southern Nevada offers many opportunities to give back to the community. For more information about getting involved, contact Executive Director Caitlin Shea at [email protected].
