Motorists in New Jersey and throughout the nation are asked to join a day-long effort on October 10, 2016, designed to increase awareness about safe driving behaviors and keep the State's roadways fatality free for one-day.

Known as Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day, the national initiative was designed to unite the country in moving toward zero fatalities for one full day by encouraging motorists to obey all traffic laws, including buckling up, every ride; driving the posted speed limit; avoiding distractions while driving; and always being safe and sober behind the wheel. Our goal is to experience a day when all roadway users are extra vigilant and there are no fatalities on our roadways.

To support this effort, Hillsborough Township issued a proclamation at Tuesday's Township
Committee meeting.

At the October 4th Township Committee meeting, the Mayor and Township Committee presented a proclamation recognizing October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The awareness campaign encourages individuals to help reduce their risk of breast cancer through regular self-exams, clinical breast exams, and mammograms which are vital since treatments are most effective when breast cancer is detected early.

Kathleen Cirioli, a two time cancer survivor, along with Joanne Liscovitz,co-founders of Dance for the Cure, a non-profit organization have helped local families impacted by breast cancer; with donations totaling over $450,000 to date. Dance for the Cure produces their largest fundraising event of the year, "Ribbons of Hope" which raises approximately $50,000 each year, supported by  local businesses who donate goods and services.

To further promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Municipal Complex has been decked out with pink ribbons.  The  pink ribbon  is an international symbol of  breast cancer awareness . Pink ribbons, and the color  pink  in general,  express  moral support  for women with  breast cancer . The ribbons will remain up throughout the month of October.

Residential Lawn Sprinkler Information

For those homeowners contemplating the installation of a lawn sprinkler system, did you know thesystem you choose may reduce  up to $70 on the cost of the required Permit?

Due to recent changes in UCC regulations, choosing a lawn sprinkler system which uses a wireless rain sensor that is plugged into an existing receptacle eliminates the need for a plan review and inspection performed by our Electrical Inspector. Instead, the inspection will be performed by a Plumbing Inspector at the time of the backflow inspector and results in a savings of $70 in permit fees.
