A Service Honoring King Kamehameha IV & Queen Emma
This Sunday, October 9 at 9:30AM, All Saints' will celebrate our Holy Sovereigns,King Kamehameha IV & Queen Emma.
The
Feast of the Holy Sovereigns
is celebrated annually in the Episcopal Church on November 28. However, All Saints' commemorates the Holy Sovereigns on the second Sunday in October to coincide with the Emalani Festival in Kokee. The Emalani Festival celebrates Hawai'iʻs beloved Queen Emma and recalls her journey to the Koke'e uplands and Kilohana vista in 1871.

is our opportunity to celebrate King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma's legacy of service, compassion, and aloha to the people of Hawai

i," says Father Ryan.
A special "Aloha Hour" reception will follow the service. All Saints' 'Ohana please bring a

Focus on Formation: What is this Episcopal Thing?
Join us for a fun two-part, family-friendly, education series on Sunday October 16th and 23rd (11:00AM to 12:00PM - Church) called "Episcopalianism for the Curious." Whether you are new to the Church or born-and-raised in the Church, this education series is for you!
This is a great opportunity to acquire a greater understanding of what it means to be an Episcopalian, what grounds our Christian identity, and the challenges confronting our Church. It is open to all ages! If you have questions, speak to Fr. Ryan.

Each week, The Epistle will highlight the upcoming Sunday School lesson from "Weaving God's Promises."
October 9: Into the Promised Land
Joshua is Moses' successor. Moses had angrily lashed out at God once in the wilderness and so would not be allowed to enter the Promised Land.
After the death of Moses at the edge of the Promised Land, Joshua becomes the new leader of the Israelites. They cross the Jordan River into the Promised Land and proceed to occupy the land.
Joshua takes over and proves to be a loyal and worthy successor to Moses, faithful to the Lord and following God's commandments.
As their leader, Joshua sends spies to see how difficult this will be.
Rahab, a harlot living in the wall-fortified city of Jericho, aids the spies by hiding them and misdirecting those who are pursuing them. In the coming Battle of Jericho, Rahab is spared as the walls of the city come falling down.
The story is an important part of this year's story, the story of our salvation. It reminds us that even after we sin and rebel against, God still gives us the Promised Land and still makes us God's people.

Preparing for Baptism
The next scheduled date for Baptisms will be Sunday, November 6th at 9:30AM during the celebration of All Saints' Day.
P
arents/Guardians who are interested in their child being baptized or adults seeking baptism are asked to attend a Baptism Preparation Class on Sunday, October 30th at 11:00AM - 12:00PM in Memorial Hall.
The class will allow parents/guardians an opportunity to reflect on their own faith journey and their hopes for their child's life of faith. For older keiki and adults seeking baptism, the class invites participants into a deep conversation about the significance of being baptized into the Body of Christ.

Eclectic Sounds of Classical and Pop
'Aha Mele
, a benefit concert series, to raise awareness and funds for the reconstruction of Kauai's only pipe organ. The concerts feature local and special guest musicians who have agreed to dedicate their time and talent towards this effort.
On Friday, November 4th at 6:00PM, the 'Aha Mele Concert Series will feature the young and talented "Welch Family." Taylor, Daniel, Katherine, and Annamarie Welch are up and coming musicians on Kauai who love to share their gift of music.

In the interest of safety and overall aesthetics, the Buildings and Grounds committee made the decision to remove the coconut root balls buried between the Church and the Gym. The coconut trees were removed a couple years ago; but, the remaining root balls posed a significant tripping hazard as they decomposed and created an unleveled walking surface.

Presiding Bishop Michael Curry and more than half of the Anglican Communion primates have travelled to Rome this week to celebrate a historic and significant milestone - 50 years since Pope Paul VI met with Archbishop of Canterbury Michael Ramsey in Rome in 1966.

Giving Back to the Community
The Friends of Kamalani & Lydgate Park are coordinating the 12th annual park improvement effort as part of "National Make a Difference Day" on Saturday, October 22nd, 7:30AM to Noon.
This year volunteers will help give the bridge a fresh coat of paint. Refreshments and lunch will be provided.
The Friends of Kamalani and Lydgate Park was established in 1993 with the purpose of building the Kamalani Playground and managing community efforts to ensure the continued expansion and improvement of the Park. Each year the Friends organize two large community work days, National Make A Difference Day in October and Earth Day in April.

the All Saints' Annual Holiday Craft Fair on Saturday, December 3, 2016. Annually, the Craft Fair
features over 70 booth spaces in the gym and on the lawn, with a wide range of wonderful crafts and products. Come be a part of one of Kauai's largest and most anticipated craft fairs!

Care/Love Packages for College Students
It is that time of year again: The Episcopal Church Women (ECW) will be putting together Care/Love packages for college students in October. The packages are a wonderful way to say "we love and miss you" and offer to our college students a little piece of home.

Ushers and Readers Needed
Two important ministries within our Sunday Worship experience are needing additional volunteers: Ushers and lay readers. To volunteer or request more information, please email Chris Wataya.
The ministry of welcome and connection is the lifeblood of growing our Church. Ushering is far more than handing out service programs and leis. Ushers are called to share Aloha and the All Saints' spirit with everyone who walks through our doors to worship with us.
A Lay Reader (Lector) is a person in the congregation who is charged to read the lessons or lead the Prayers of the People. The are expected to reverently and clearly share the beauty of God's Holy Scripture. The role is open to anyone who is able to read including keiki. We are currently looking for Lay Readers for both the 7AM and 9:30AM services.
Medical Equipment Ministry Startup
A new ministry developing to provide durable medical equipment available for loan to the community. The ministry hopes to offer shower chairs, walkers, wheelchairs, crutches, etc. to loan for a small deposit, partially refundable upon the return of the equipment. Environmentally Friendly Answer to Service Programs
In an effort to minimize our environmental footprint upon the 'Aina, All Saints' has launched a "Paperless Service Program" initiative. The program's goal is to encourage parishioners to download the Sunday service program onto their mobile device (iPhone, iPad, Kindle, etc.). A download link will be available each week in The Epistle under the "This Sunday" section. In addition, the Sunday program can be downloaded by visiting:

Interested in Discernment?
All Saints' is exploring the idea of forming a "discernment group." The exact configuration and life of the group will be largely guided by the needs of the individuals who elect to participate. At the core, we hope a group of people would gather regularly for conversation, study, and prayer specifically around each other's call. The fundamental question could be: "How can we listen for our vocation, for God's calling in our lives, and listen for it in community, in the Body of Christ?" If you might be interested in this endeavor, please either email or speak to Fr. Ryan.
