Heritage Family Bonfire this Sunday, Oct 23 from 4-5:30pm

Bring your lawn chairs and family to the Heritage H.A.N.D.S. bonfire at the school on Sunday, October 23 anytime from 4-5:30pm for s'mores and hot chocolate. This is a great time to meet new families and connect with old friends!

Help fill your classroom shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child (sponsored by Samaritan's Purse) helps provide for needy children worldwide and is a great opportunity to give out of the abundance that God has given to us. This year, each class will be filling two shoeboxes to send, and collections will take place between October 24th and November 11th. Here's how you can help:
  • Each class will fill two shoeboxes (one for a girl and one for a boy)
  • We are asking every Heritage student to bring in $1 (or MORE to cover for those students that don't bring money in) to help cover the shipping and handling cost ($7 for each shoebox).
  • Donate any of the following items by bringing them to the school (check your child's classroom newsletter for details):
    • SMALL toys (that can fit in a small shoebox) - small cars, dolls, stuffed animals, yo-yos, jump ropes, toys that light-up or make noise, etc. PLEASE, NO WAR-RELATED TOYS OR BREAKABLE ITEMS.
    • School supplies - pens, pencils and sharpeners, crayons or markers, stamps and ink pad sets, coloring books, writing pads or paper, solar calculators.
    • Hygiene items - toothbrush, mild bar soap, comb, brush, washcloths, etc. (NO TOOTHPASTE)
    • Other miscellaneous items that a child would enjoy - watches, picture books (no words), sunglasses, flashlights (with extra batteries), ball caps, socks, T-shirts, hair clips, etc. (NO CANDY OR FOOD of any kind!)
    • DO NOT INCLUDE: USED OR DAMAGED ITEMS, WAR-RELATED ITEMS, CANDY OR FOOD, TOOTHPASTE, LIQUIDS OR LOTIONS, MEDICATIONS OR VITAMINS, BREAKABLE ITEMS SUCH AS GLASS, OR AEROSOL CANS
    • Please note that we will NOT ACCEPT TOOTHPASTE or CANDY/FOOD since starting in 2017 the shoeboxes cannot contain those items

Get Involved at Heritage!
Are you looking for a way to get more involved at HCS and meet more people? H.A.N.D.S. is seeking new members, both for this year and looking ahead to next year as well. H.A..N.D.S. assists the teachers and staff as needed throughout the year as well as plans activities for the entire school. If you are willing to help plan activities at school such as Donuts with Dads and Veterans Day, or help with school wide mailings, please consider attending a meeting or two to find out more about what we do and how you can get involved. H.A.N.D.S. meets the second Wednesday of each month after drop off. Young children are welcome to attend the meetings with their parents. Please contact Natasha Miller with any questions - [email protected].
All School Thanksgiving Lunch - Friday, November 18
Friday, November 18th, will be our annual All School Thanksgiving Day Lunch. Again this year we'll have an opportunity for the entire school community to come together at the same time to give thanks through worship, eating, and fellowship. We look forward to spending time acknowledging together how God has blessed us as individuals, families, and a school.

Parents and grandparents, you are encouraged to arrive at school by 11:20am to join your child(ren) in the gymnasium for chapel, beginning at 11:30am. Following chapel, we will enjoy lunch "picnic-style" on the gym floor at 11:50am. Recess will follow outside from 12:30-1:00pm.

Our caterer will provide a boxed lunch (club sandwich on croissant, chips, fruit, and chocolate chip cookie) available for purchase for both students/children and adults. The cost for the student or younger sibling will be the normal $4.00 and the adult price is $7.50. The adult sandwich is a larger sandwich so if you have an older student, you are welcome to order that for your student but you will have to pay the adult price. Please indicate on the web order the total number of meals you would desire. All lunch orders (including the Thanksgiving boxed lunch) must be submitted by the 26th of October. All payments must be received by October 31st. Please also feel free to bring in your own lunch for you and your child(ren) that day. If you have any questions, please contact Brenda Wichhart at 626-4777 or [email protected].
With the leaves changing colors, it is time to start thinking about basketball season. This year we will be offering a 5/6th boys basketball team led by Head Coach Greg Lybeck and Assistant Coach Jeff Schweitzer, a 7/8th girls basketball team led by Head Coach Matt Traetow and Assistant Coach Greg Lybeck, a 7/8th boys basketball team led by Head Coach Jim Turnbough and Assistant Coach Lisa Turnbough, a 5/6th girls cheerleading squad, and a 7/8th girls cheerleading squad both led by Head Coach Nichole Early and Assistant Coach Mary Mysnyk. Once again we are blessed with a great group of coaches this year who are dedicated to helping your children grow as student-athletes. If your 5-8th grade student is interested in playing basketball please e-mail Serah Snell at [email protected] or if your 5-8th grade student is interested in participating in cheerleading, please e-mail Nichole Early at [email protected] by Friday, November 4th. All athletic forms and fees are due on Friday, November 4th.

On Thursday, October 6th the 7/8th Grade Volleyball team won a tough battle against a strong Williamsburg team 2 out of 3 sets. The match consisted of lengthy volleys and intense scoring as the Eagles won the first two sets, 26-24 and 26-24. Naomi Miller had an exceptional game and earned her team a number of points with aggressive hits and saves at the net. The Eagles battled the 3rd set but lost a close 12-15.
