Winner of the What's On Stage Award for Best New Comedy 2010
Based on a true story. After Annie's husband John dies of leukemia, she and best friend Chris devise an innovative way to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room. They manage to persuade four fellow WI members to pose nude with them for an "alternative" calendar. The news of the women's charitable venture spreads like wildfire and the calendar is a success. Chris and Annie's friendship is put to the test under the strain of their new-found fame.

"Puppets and People"
The Rep Ed winter session for children ages 7-16 will take place January 16 - March 5. The winter session's theme is "Puppets and People". After introductory work with sock puppets, students will quickly transition into more advanced hand puppets and Bunraku puppetry. During the classes students will learn both how to build the puppets as well as how to operate them in a theatrical performance. Classes will also include theatre basics as well as the core subjects of Acting, Dance, and Music.
Classes are held at the 10th Street Theatre, Saturday mornings and start promptly at 9:00 am and finish at noon. Students will showcase what they have learned on March 5th at noon at The Toledo Rep. The 8 week course is $100 per student.

Keely-Rain Battle, a theatre graduate from the University of Toledo who has studied puppetry, will be teaching Puppet Basics. Keely's classes will include the history of puppetry, current uses of puppetry in theatre and how to construct sock, hand and bunraku puppets. She will also help students explore embodying puppetry through singing, dancing and acting.
Amber Breault-Albain, a theatre graduate with a concentration in music education from Owens Community College, will be teaching Music. Amber will cover the basics of music education including counting beats, letter names of notes and reading sheet music. Amber will also teach the students how to prepare for the musical portion of an audition.
Dom Glover, Company Principal dancer at The Toledo Ballet, will be teaching Dance. Dom's classes will include basic steps for jazz and Broadway numbers, how to add personality to dance and coordination with movements.
Vicki Monhollen, a theatre graduate from Freed-Hardeman University, a seasoned director at Cardinal Stritch High School and director of The Rep's upcoming production of Tales From the Arabian Mice, will be teaching Acting. Vicki's classes will emphasize methods for character analysis and development.

Adult Improv Classes at The Rep
Our Rep Ed program is excited to offer
its second round of Adult Improv
classes beginning Sunday, Feb. 7 and
running 6 weeks through Sunday,
March 13. A Level 1 course for beginners will run from noon-2:30pm and a Level 2 course for intermediate
students will run from 3:00- 5:30pm each Sunday. There will be a combined level improv showcase on the evening of Monday, March 14. Registration is $125.00

Level 1- Instructor Martin Verni
Level 1 introduces students to the principles of improvisation. Learn improv in a
pressure-free environment! No prior experience necessary!
Through exercises and performance games, students will focus on short-form improvisation ('Whose Line is it Anyway?'). Upon completing Level 1, you will have learned the basic fundamentals of improv, while gaining the building blocks of long-form improvisation.
Martin Verni has taught and performed improvisation for over a decade in both New York City and Chicago. He began at Second City's NYTC and has performed at the Upright Citizen's Brigade and Gotham City Improv. Upon moving to Chicago, he continued his training at iO (formerly Improv Olympic) and performed with Cowlick at The Playground Theater. Martin is proud to have shared the stage with such emerging comedic luminaries as Lauren Lapkus, Lennon Parham and Leslie Meisel. In addition to improvisation, Martin has performed in numerous plays, was a background performer for Saturday Night Live and appeared as an Eminem look-a-like for the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.
Level 2- Instructor Nick Morgan
Level 2 says 'yes, and...' to Level 1 and continues to reinforce and build upon the foundations established in Level 1. This class will focus heavily on object work, environment and emotions and introduce the class to the principles of long-form improvisation. The class will learn to string two person and group scenes together in a montage centered around a single suggestion and theme.
Nick Morgan was trained in improv at The Second City theater in Chicago, IL and iO (formerly Improv Olympic) and has graduated the Conservatory program at The Second City, whose notable alumni include Dan Aykroyd, Joan Rivers, John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Bill Murray, John Candy, Eugene Levy, Mike Myers, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert and Tina Fey. Nick performed improv at The Playground Theater, with longtime house team 'Wing Night', and wrote and performed his original show 'Karl Lighter's Hour of Power' at The Second City's Skybox Theater. Nick is a former board member here at The Rep and is fortunate enough to have performed in 2 productions on the 10th St. stage.

Auditions will consist of readings from the script and all characters will have British accents. Please bring a picture and resume if you have one. Rehearsals will begin in February.
Synopsis:
Ten strangers are invited to an isolated island off the Southern coast of England for a weekend. They don't know each other, but they are all hiding something. Does one of them know their secrets? And, if so, who? That's the setting for Agatha Christie's classic murder mystery. One by one - and in accordance with a classic children's rhyme - the guests meet their fates and the decorative toy soldiers on the mantel disappear. Who will be next?

Actor's Spotlight
In honor of our upcoming production of
Calendar Girls, we would like to dedicate this month's Actor's Spotlight to Madge Levinson!
Levinson, who was born in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, 31 miles northwest of Pittsburgh,
made her stage debut in a grade school production more than 80 years ago. Since then acting has been her creative outlet.
The salutatorian of her high school class, Madge earned a chemistry degree at The University of Chicago and days later married Al Levinson.
His job took them to Indianapolis, Cleveland, Gary, Indiana and in 1969, Toledo, Ohio.
When she retired from her duties as founder and general manager of a radio reading service for the blind in 1991, she began acting more and working alongside Hollywood celebrities.
Madge's first acting experience with The Rep came shortly after moving to Toledo, with the production
Summer and Smoke
. Since then she has appeared in countless performances, most recently in The Rep's
Leading Ladies,
Moonglow
and in our current production of
Calendar Girls
.

In addition to appearing on our Mainstage, Madge has coordinated and been involved with The Rep's
Armchair Theatre
and
Young Playgoers
groups for many years. Beyond her involvement in acting for The Rep, Madge is also an active member of the North Coast Theater troupe, which currently performs experimental plays at the Oliver House.
Outside of live theatrical performances, Madge has done a great deal of work in front of the camera acting in a variety of television commercials and films over the years. She had the privilege of working with Hollywood stars Clint Eastwood in
Gran Torino
, as Sigourney Weaver's mother in
Prayers for Bobby and in Whip It! with
Drew Barrymore and Ellen Page.

Fun fact, one of Madge's favorite events was promoting an exhibit at T
he
Detroit Institute of Arts in 2004, which featured the painting "Whistler's
Mother." Levinson brought the famous subject to life in a long, black dress and a white bonnet at a Detroit Tigers baseball game,
where she threw out the first pitch!
Few people have had as much of an impact upon the history of our theatre as Madge Levinson. She has devoted much of her free time as a volunteer for The Rep, doing everything from preparing bulk mailings and working the box office, to ushering and helping with costumes and sets.
All of this work was recognized in 2010 when she was named the recipient of the Robert E. Gard Superior Volunteer Award by the American Association of Community Theatre, honored for 40 years of service to the Toledo Repertoire Theatre.
In addition to the Rep, Madge has worked with numerous area arts organizations over the years, including the Jazz Society, the Performing Arts Council, Collingwood Arts Center, Ms. Rose's Dinner Theatre, The Toledo Opera and many others. She has also helped organize the annual Shakespeare contest for the Toledo Branch of the English Speaking Union.
We are extremely grateful to have Madge as part of The Toledo Rep family and our Toledo community.

. With the generous donations of our patrons, we collected overa
ll 60 toys that were delivered to local area children in time for Christmas.
