Recovery Updates - Midday Report

Curfew:
Currently, there is no curfew imposed in the City of Coral Gables or in Miami-Dade County.

FPL:
Coral Gables customers without power: approximately 45%.

FPL is responsible for clearing up downed power lines that fell on city trees. They are providing two special response crews to remove the power lines in large city trees in  12 identified  city locations.

Tree Removal:
City streets are now passable within the asphalt area, unless there are power lines in the trees. We are ready for garbage pickup, which resumes today.  (Those routes with Monday-Thursday pickup schedule will be collected today, and those routes with Tuesday-Friday schedule will be collected on Friday.)

The City has requested special response teams from either FPL or through Miami-Dade County's EOC to address large trees with downed power lines.

Trolley:
More than 1300 passengers took the Ponce Blvd. route yesterday. The Grand Avenue loop is now running with a slightly modified route. For details, call 305-460-5070.

Public Safety:
Call volume to the City's Communications Center remains high.  In the last 24 hours, our Fire Department responded to 73 Incidents with the majority of calls were post-storm related ranging from arcing wires, smoke in building and building fires.  They are experiencing an increase in medical-related emergency calls.

CG Police reported no arrests yesterday. There was a report of stolen tools from a building around McFarlane homestead area, and a residential burglary through a garage door in southern area of the city.

City Building Inspectors have completed their damage assessment for the city. Overall, there were 256 structures that sustained damage, mostly roof, with only one major damage.

Generator safety: use caution when using generators. Shut it down and cool it before re-fueling.  The exhaust should be pointed away from the house and upwind.

Safety at home: Remember that most hurricane-related accidents occur after the storm. Exercise caution while working around your home. Watch out for unstable trees or sections of any building. Use caution while using ladders or power tools to avoid falls or injuries. If working outdoors or have no electricity, take measures to avoid heat exhaustion, remain hydrated and seek shelter from the heat.  Use caution when restarting equipment damaged by the storm such as stored vehicles, generators or other appliances/machines thus preventing any fire hazards.
