Dear MBS Parents and Guardians,

FAMILY SURVEY
In today's folder, we are sending home to each family an anonymous survey that asks about the family's income level, family membership, etc. This information is kept in the strictest confidence and is only used to compile data relevant to our school's eligibility for federal programs. Last year, MBS received over $43,000.00 in state and federal funding. Without the participation of each family, we will not qualify for the maximum state/federal dollars that you have paid in your taxes and we are entitled to by law. As you may know, Catholic schools do not receive direct federal or state funding. However, we are able to access state and federal funds that are administered through local school districts and the M.S.D.E. The funds that are available to us assist in purchasing textbooks, materials of instruction and in providing professional development to our teachers. We sincerely appreciate your assistance in the endeavor. Please return your completed survey by Friday, September 22nd. Thank you!

EMERGENCY FORMS
Enclosed in today's folder is your child's DIOCESE OF WILMINGTON STUDENT PERMANENT RECORD REPORT. This form should be returned to the school office by Friday, September 29th. MBS uses the information from the form to contact families in case of an emergency, including if your child gets sick during the school day or if an emergency arises at school and we need to close early. These forms must be completed and signed on both sides as proof that you have reviewed the information and that you have made any necessary changes. Forms that are not signed ON BOTH SIDES will be returned.

1)     PLEASE REVIEW THE FRONT AND BACK OF EACH FORM
2)     CROSS OFF any mistakes
3)     Make ADDITIONS or CORRECTIONS in the right hand column
4)     SIGN AND DATE the BOTTOM OF THE FRONT of the form
5)     SIGN AND DATE the Emergency School Closure Plan Section on the BACK of the form.

Please remember to include ANYONE (i.e. neighbor, relative, sitter, another parent) who might pick up your child from school in the Emergency Contact Section.

Items donated included: paper towels, toilet paper, toothbrushes/toothpaste, shaving cream, razors, soap, shampoo, deodorant, flashlights, batteries, bleach, paper plates, cups, plastic utensils, Band-aids, diapers, baby food/formula, trash bags, rubber gloves, pet food, pet leashes, collars, blankets, coloring books, and small toys.

RAINY DAY DISMISSAL
On days w hen it is raining heavily and/or there is lightning at dismissal time, we will follow a rainy day dismissal procedure. On those days, students will be dismissed from the fro n t doors of the school. Parents will line up in their  vehicles in the regular pick-up line. Please wait until the  staff signals the cars to pull around to the front of the building where staff will call for the children to come out to their vehicle. We ask that parents make a sign (8.5" x 11") with the children's last names on the sign and place that sign on the right side of the vehicle's dash board.

Three tractor trailer trucks were filled with donations, including those collected at MBS.

Thank you to our MBS families for your generous donations for the victims of hurricane Harvey.  We were so happy to partner with Berlin Farm Supply to make this project possible.  A special thanks to the Kristin and Alan Hudson, our family and owner of Berlin Farm Supply for picking up our donations and delivering it to the next spot before delivery to Texas.  May we all keep Texas and Florida and our country in our prayers.

Counseling Corner
Welcome back to a new school year at MBS.  I met with our middle school students this week to remind them of a few things we will all be working on this year.  We talked about responsibility, this is a time we need to stress responsibility of self and school work as we prepare them for high school.  I stressed the use of their planners and resources to help them have an organized and productive year.  We talked about kindness.  We discussed using  kindness always in the words we use, the actions we make and the things we post.  We discussed service.  We discussed doing service for others, for our earth (by being part of our Go Green Team) and the reward we feel when we have helped others as God wants us to do.  By the time our 8th graders graduate we would like our students to have at least 20 hours of service.  The students know how to get volunteer forms and to then turn them into me.  We will collect hours during 6th, 7th and 8th grade years.  Parents feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at [email protected].

Help support your MBS Athletic Programs!!!

Sport Wristbands:
The MBS Athletic Dept. is selling Silicone Wristbands for $2 with the phrase "F.E.A.R.-Face Everything And Rise" imprinted on them. In class, we've discussed facing challenges in school, activities and life that we can't overlook or hide from. The wristbands are a good reminder to always try our best in all that we do and a wonderful way to support our Athletic Dept.
Sports Equipment:
We are looking for gently used fitness/sports equipment such as dumbbells, BOSU balls, medicine balls, cleats, lax sticks/helmets etc. for our teams/faculty to have access to. There has been a strong push to improve physical fitness from both the students and staff here at MBS. Before I go out and purchase more equipment I wanted to ask our MBS families first. For more info. or to set up a time to drop off equipment, please contact me via email.
Pictures, Pictures, Pictures!!!:
Any pictures you may have or will take during our various seasons please email them to [email protected] or [email protected]. Thanks!
