10th Annual
Bucks County Ancestry Fair
Saturday, November 12, 2016

This year the event will be held at Upper Bucks Campus of Bucks County Community College, One Hillendale Rd, Perkasie, PA.

Our Keynote speaker for this event will be Judy Russell, the Legal Genealogist.  Judy will provide two lectures in addition to the Keynote presentation. We have confirmed several additional presenters; the schedule is posted on the Ancestry Fair website soon.

New features this year include bigger classrooms, more time between lectures, longer lunch break, pre-registration, and lunch options for pre-registrants.

We need lots of help on the day of the event.  I f you think you can spare an hour or two to help at the November event, please contact Peg Felter at  [email protected] .

The next meeting of the Ancestry Fair Committee will be held on Saturday, October 29th, 10 AM in the 2nd floor Community Room at McCaffrey's Market, Yardley.  If you would like to be part of the committee - or just want to find out what is going on, please join us at the meeting.

If you can't come to the meeting but would like to help, we can suggest an easy way for you to help. Just print out some copies of the Ancestry Fair poster, take them to your local stores, and ask that a poster be placed in the window.

 Election of Officers and Directors

Article IV of the BCGS bylaws states that the annual business meeting is to be held in November for the election of officers and directors for the next year. In addition to the nominees listed below, other nominations for officers and directors will be accepted at the November 5th meeting.  The nominees are:

President - Mary Butash. Mary has served as president of BCGS during 2016 and as
secretary for three years before that. She lives in Jenkintown (Montgomery County) but joined BCGS because she was so impressed by the programs offered. Mary is retired from 45 years as a nurse, nurse practitioner and finally nursing educator at Roxborough Hospital School of Nursing. She is descended from a mechanical engineer and a registered nurse with Polish and Slovak ancestry.

VP Membership - Peg Felter.  Peg has served as Assistant VP Membership during
2016 and 2015, working with Pat Gessner, the current VP Membership. Peg lives in Bristol, is retired and spends some of her spare time singing with the Bucks County Women's Chorus. Peg has traced her mother's family as far back as the 17th century, but her German and Irish ancestors are her brick walls.

VP Programs & Education - Jeff Sipler.   Jeff has served in this office for four years and is a charter member of BCGS.  He lives in Langhorne and is a social studies teacher at Council Rock High School North in Newtown and can trace his family roots to 18th century Bucks County.

VP Projects & Research - Connie Ace.  Connie has worked with Joann
Cosgrove, the current VP Projects, on several BCGS projects, staffs the Beginners Corner at our monthly meetings, and has been a speaker at one of our meetings.  She lives in Warrington but is a native of California, where her wagon train pioneer ancestors sparked her interest in genealogy as a young girl.  After moving to the east coast over 35 years ago, she was delighted to discover that her very early roots are from Pennsylvania! Connie holds a PhD in biophysics and spent over 25 years in biomedical research.  Her retirement job is much more fun: she's a professional genealogist.

Treasurer - Marilyn Cook.  Marilyn is a charter member of BCGS and has served as
board secretary and hospitality coordinator. She lives in Doylestown and is happily retired.
She has been researching her family history since 1979.  Her father was interested in genealogy and made some notes. After he passed away, Marilyn gathered his material and started working on it. It was grief therapy, she said, and it became more than that.

Director - Publicity - Cathy Ivins. Cathy  has served in this position for four years and is also a charter member of BCGS.  She is a resident of Levittown and works as an Instructional Assistant and Student Council Advisor for Bristol Township School District. Cathy has two adult "descendants".  She is a coal-miner's granddaughter, with Polish, Italian and Irish roots, practicing genealogy without a license for 12 years! Cathy is now pursuing a "calling" in Genetic Genealogy.

Director - Website - Nancy Heath.  Nancy  has served in this position for four years
and is a charter member of BCGS. She operates her own software development business, Town Place Associates, out of her home in Thorofare, NJ.  Nancy spends her spare time tracking down her ancestors in early Bucks County, as well as Hunterdon and Mercer counties in New Jersey.

The Nominating Committee is seeking someone for the position of Secretary. If you would like additional information about the Secretary position, please contact one of the members of the Nominating Committee:
