For "Tokens on the Small Screen," professors and scholars at six California universities looked at 242 broadcast, cable and digital platform shows that aired during the 2015-16 season and tallied the numbers, screen time and portrayals of characters of Asian or Pacific Islander descent among 2,000 TV characters.
Deadline
A new report finds that while about 20% of Americans have a disability, only 1.7% of all the characters portrayed on TV last season were visibly disabled. The report, from the Ruderman Family Foundation, which advocates for the inclusion of people with disabilities in society, also found that "an astonishing 95% of characters with disabilities on TV are played by non-disabled actors." 
The Wrap
The Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film at San Diego State University released its annual "Boxed In" study on Tuesday, and its findings show that on TV shows with at least one female creator or executive producer, 51 percent of major characters were women. By comparison, shows with exclusively male creators only gave 38 percent of major roles to women.
