Final Details for the Trip:
We were at the camp last week with the Zone students and it was wonderful. The cabins are in fantastic condition equipped with washrooms. The food was very kid friendly and plentiful (please DO NOT SEND ANY FOOD OR SNACKS FOR YOUR SON/DAUGHTER). Food in the cabins attracts rodents and other forest creatures.
Packing:
***Students may pack or use any bag they would like as long as they can carry it to and from the cabins in one trip. Staff are not allowed to porter student bags at camp.***
1) Students should prepare for cool Autumn days and very cool to cold evenings and nights. The weather looks very good for us, but with Autumn weather in Huntsville the evenings and nights will be quite cool.
2) Pack a swim suit and towel. These are not on the Packing List but swimming is on the schedule and last week the Zone students did swim.
3) Make sure to pack a toque (winter hat) for sleeping. The correct sleeping bag (a quality 0 to -7 degree one) will keep the students warm, but the hat will be beneficial.
4) The activities happen rain or shine, so a good set of rain gear is a must to pack. The rain gear can also be worn in the evenings for warmth.
5) Don't forget to pack a personal, refillable water bottle.
6) Grade 6 students require a 30L dry sack for their overnight trip. This dry sack can be used for the Expedition in grades 7& 8.
7) DO NOT SEND ANY SCHOOL UNIFORM CLOTHING WITH YOUR SON/DAUGHTER!!! Save these items for school attire. While at camp, students should wear clothing that can get extremely dirty.
If you are looking for places to purchase proper camping items for the trip, please avoid Canadian Tire and Walmart. You want your son/daughter to fully enjoy the trip and proper clothing and sleeping gear is a must. Here is a list of places to purchase some of these items:
Costco
- usually carries a fantastic "Wetskin" rain suit that is ideal for this trip.
Bass Pro Shops
(at Vaughan Mills)
MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-op)
- downtown Toronto & Burlington
SAIL
- Vaughan, Etobicoke, Burlington
***No Electronics at all !!!! Students may pack a book to read or playing cards, but no iPads, phones, or other digital devices.
Medication and Forms.
***All medication and forms are due tomorrow. After tomorrow we cannot accept any medication and or forms for students.
The school policy has always been that no medication, prescription or over-the-counter can be administered by a staff member unless it has a label from a pharmacy, with a doctor's name and specific directions of how to administer it. Hand written labels are not accepted.
For over the counter medications, parents can go to their family physicians, pediatricians or local walk-in clinics in order to get a formal prescription.
Also, for students who carry Epi-pens, a minimum of 2 Epi-pens should follow the child at all times on the trip. One pen is on the child and one pen is with the staff member supervising the group.
If you are planning to send/use the epi-pen from the front office, it is up to you (the parent) to retrieve it and get it the staff member on Monday.
If your son/daughter requires ANY TYPE OF MEDICATION, please fill out the attached FORM and send it along with the medication. Place the medication in a labelled zip-lock bag.
All medication is to go to Mrs. Fida (if your child is in a UE class) or Mrs. Dougan (if your child is in Grades 4-6).
See everyone on Tuesday morning, bright and early!
