Thanksgiving Veggie Help
At Thanksgiving we decorate the church with fruits and vegetables bought at the one of the city markets. After the service, these are then donated to The Well for use in their meals. We are in need of someone to pick up the fruits and vegetables – a list of what is required and the money to purchase it is available. Please let Beth+ know if you can help.

Please Note
Beth+ is away at Clergy Conference Monday, September 18 th through Wednesday, September 20 th. Please contact the Wardens if you require assistance: Brian Cameron (613-749-3583 or cameronb@magma.ca) or Wendy Williamson-Scrim (613-795 8831 or justjump_17@hotmail.com).

Please Welcome
Our new Deacon, The Reverend Dr Caroline Ducros! Deacons are ordained as a servant ministry of the Church, to bring the Good News of the Gospel to the world, and the concerns of the world to the people of God.
Caroline+ is very excited about further developing her diaconal ministry through her appointment at St John’s, and her ongoing volunteer work with the Ottawa Carleton Detention Centre.
Welcome, Caroline+!

FOOD FOR LIFE

Spiritual Book
Of The Month

"Food for Life” draws on L. Shannon Jung's gifts as theologian, ethicist, pastor, and eater extraordinaire. In this deeply thoughtful but very lively book, he encourages us to see our humdrum habits of eating and drinking as a spiritual practice that can renew and transform us and our world. In a fascinating sequence that takes us from the personal to the global, Jung establishes the religious meaning of eating and shows how it dictates a healthy order of eating. He exposes Christians' complicity in the face of widespread eating disorders we experience personally, culturally, and globally, and he argues that these disorders can be reversed through faith, Christian practices, attention to habitual activities like cooking and gardening, the church's ministry, and transforming our cultural policies about food.

Perfect Books on Elgin Street kindly offers St John’s a 15% discount. A copy for borrowing will be purchased and available in the Office at St John's.
