From the President
I have now been in the role of President for 12 months and whilst we have accomplished much we still have lots to do.

This is a link to my President’s Report which contain s details of what has been achieved.

Whilst it s great to be able to check off a list of “things” we have done I think the enduring feeling I have is the wonderful people I have been privileged to work with and get to know.

The Maccabi community is unique and the exten t of volunteer involvement is unprecedented. We now have several clubs with close to or over 500 members and the logistics involved in getting teams up is astounding. The hours of work, given by hundreds of volunteers, cannot be underestimated nor can there be adequate thanks.

I am also proud to say that the majority of our clubs are financially sound and very well managed.

The Maccabi Board is having a strategy session in mid October so we can map out or priorities and a pathway for the next 12 months. I think an exciting year is ahead.

I wish everyone a Shana T ova and well over the F ast.
Maccabi Victoria AGM
Over 60 people, including Maccabi Victoria club representatives, Hall of Fame Members, Life Members, Board and Foundation members and MAI Board Members attended the 2017 Maccabi Victoria AGM held on Wednesday 6 September at the Maccabi Victoria office.
Meet Our New Board Members
Rochelle Rothfield
R ochelle has been involved in Maccabi through her two boys who have been active participants in both Basketball and Football for over 6 years. Her husband Daniel is currently serving as Treasurer for Maccabi Basketball Victoria.
Rochelle joined the Maccabi Board in 2017 to drive the promotion and development of Youth Leadership within the local Clubs and at State level.
When not serving on various Boards and Committees throughout the community, Rochelle is the Director of a successful legal executive search company, Rothfield Legal Recruitment and works closely with law firms and organisations across Melbourne to appoint senior Lawyers.
Rochelle is very excited about making a valuable contribution to connecting the Jewish community, particularly our Youth leaders, through sport.
Anita Bartfeld
Anita Bartfeld has found herself intrinsically connected to Maccabi since the mid-1980s, having first watched her father play Squash and Volleyball from the sidelines; and in the last 10 years she has avidly supported her husband in his Hockey pursuits for both the Seniors and the Veterans.
In more recent years, Anita has cheered her oldest son, Jesse on in both his Milo Cricket and Auskick endeavours and looks forward to continuing the family tradition when her younger son, Noah joins the Maccabi fold in coming years.
In her professional life, Anita is a Barrister with a particular focus on wills and estates; and works tirelessly to promote the interests of the elderly and disabled through her appearance work in the Guardianship List at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
In joining the Maccabi Victoria Board in late 2017, Anita hopes to bring a fresh perspective to the future direction of Maccabi Victoria with a particular emphasis on the active involvement and inclusion of not only the athlete within the family, but the family as a whole; believing that the benefit derived from physical pursuit is immeasurable for the athlete, the family and the broader community.
Kate Perlstein
Kate grew up playing many different sports. She was part of the Maccabi Tennis, Netball and Basketball clubs as a junior. She continued to play basketball at the Senior level as part of the Big V competition. Kate has been to the Maccabiah Games as an athlete and captain 3 times. Since finishing up with Basketball, Kate has been heavily involved in the Women's Basketball Program, creating a pathway for talented junior basketballers to enter the senior ranks. In 2013 she started her own Orthotics business where she works closely with sports physicians, orthothopaedic surgeons and other health professionals. Kate has a passion for Maccabi and wants to ensure ongoing opportunities exist for the next generation of sports people.

Maccabi 'Family' Profile
Bella Oldham
All abilities/student placement

Describe yourself in 5 words: fun, honest, passionate, empathetic, (always) hungry
Favourite movie: has to be either Dirty Dancing or The Parent Trap!
Favourite TV show: The Walking Dead! or Friends.
Favourite band/singer:   Bon Iver or Fat Freddy’s drop!
Favourite food: probably the hardest question on here! I adore my dads pepper steak with potato mash and creamy pepper sauce, but will never ever say no to chocolate. Ever
If you could be anyone for a day, who would it be?  I don’t want to be anyone specific, but I would love to be someone foreign, maybe a successful French chef on holiday in her summer house or something equally as exotic, so I could live a day in another country PLUS get to make and eat all the beautiful cuisine.
Sporting idol: Roger Federer
Favourite sporting team/s: Bombers!
Maccabi most memorable moment: Final lunch in the office with the whole team! Such a lovely way to finish off the 3 months. But I will also never forget having the opportunity to take the fitness session with the All Abilities members. We all had such a great time.
Which celebrity should play you in a movie about your life?   I’d like to think Amanda Seyfried or a blonde Emma Stone.

Our time at Maccabi has been eye-opening and so so valuable. I don’t think we’ll ever have the pleasure of experiencing such an open, welcoming and fun working environment. Thank you to everyone we had the pleasure of meeting, as well as those we worked closely with, particularly Shari Cohen. We are so grateful for the opportunities, and will always remember our time at Maccabi.
