Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every  Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7pm. Admission  is $5 on Tuesday and $6 on Saturday. Line Dancing classes are also offered on Monday nights beginning at 6pm. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Local blue grass and old time musicians jam each Monday, 2 blocks north of the Courthouse at the Crouse House in Crouse Park, beginning at 6pm. Come and play or just listen. No charge, but a donation is appreciated. 336-372-5473

Barn Quilt Trails 

Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

Veterans' Morning Coffee & Breakfast
 at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee every Wednesday from 8:30-11am. All veterans are invited to attend.  Click to learn more .
 
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10am-2pm, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 US Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Mountain Heritage Festival


The 23rd Annual Mountain Heritage Festival will be on
Saturday, September 16th from
10 AM until 4:30 PM. The whole Main Street of Sparta will be shut down and lined with craft vendors as well as live bands and food! Be sure to come out and celebrate our Mountain Heritage! 
Western Piedmont Symphony
Old Fashioned Day at Stone Mountain State Park

Old fashioned day at Stone Mountain State Park will begin at 11 AM until 4 PM on Saturday, September 16th. There will be live music, displays of quilting, blacksmithing, looming, fishing lure tying, bee keeping, basket weaving, pottery, and much more!

Alleghany Writers

Alleghany Writers   creative writing group is calling all writers!
We will meet at 4pm, on September 21st in the Alleghany Library. Meetings include exercises, critique, and discussion. Writers of all skill levels are invited to participate. Meetings adjourn at 5:30pm.  

Mountain Soul Music Festival

Jonah Riddle and the Carolina Express (Bluegrass/Gospel) Burnsville, NC will be performing Sunday, September 24th. The Mountain Soul Music Festival will be held on every last Sunday of the month starting in April until December.
Admission is free but donations are appreciated! Located at Christ Episcopal Church in Sparta, NC.

New River State Park Upcoming Activities

New River State Park: River Run / Hickory Trail
October 7, 2017, 02:00 pm- Approx. 03:00 pm:
Join a Ranger at the Highway 221 visitor center, and learn what makes the New River one of the oldest in the world.  The hike will take us on a moderate trail winding through pine forest that lead to the river's edge, and then travels back to the visitor center with oaks and hickories overhead.
