Register Now for the Apple Harvest Day 5K Road Race
The
Apple Harvest Day 5K Road Race, underwritten by
Seacoast Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, kicks off the Seacoast's premier autumn street festival on Saturday, October 7th. The 5K Road Race starts on River Street and ends on Washington Street in downtown Dover. The USTAF certified course runs directly through the Apple Harvest Day festival site on Washington Street and Central Avenue, and then winds through historic Dover on a rolling course that is suitable for beginner runners and walkers, as well as advanced racers. The first 250 runners to register will receive a free t-shirt!

V for victory: America in World War II
Saturday and Sunday, September 16 and 17, 11am-4pm
Colonel Paul Wentworth House, Water Street, Rollinsford, NH
How did the US entrance into World War II affect ordinary Americans? Visit Rollinsford's historic Colonel Paul Wentworth House on Saturday and Sunday, September 16 and 17, between 11 am and 4 pm to experience V for Victory: America in World War II, a living history weekend exploring America's role in the global conflict. On the grounds of the Wentworth House, historical reenactors in period uniforms will display the equipment, weapons, and routines of US soldiers. Inside the house, visitors will get a feel for life on the home front through 1940s music, artifacts such as ration cards and V-mail, and the magazines and newspapers that chronicled the growing conflict, including one from the day after Pearl Harbor. A highlight of the event will be exhibits showcasing the personal items and stories of local residents from the war years. Tours of the house will also be offered during the event. Admission is $5 for adults; the event is free to children and ARCH members.

Historic Walking Tour of Dover

The Downtown Walking Tours will leave from the Chamber parking lot, proceeding through the downtown area including narratives outlining the early settlement period through the manufacturing period which began its demise in 1896. Tours begin at the Chamber Visitor Center at 10:30 a.m. Reservations are required, and can be made by calling 603-742-2218. Downtown Walking Tours cost $8 per person or $5 per person for families of 4 or more.

Where Fire Meets Form Tuesdays 6:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Aug. 1-Sept. 26
We will focus on elements of craft, such as scene, characterization, dialogue, narrative voice, point-of-view, and more. I will incorporate writing exercises and prompts, and we will engage in lively discussions that will provide you with the tools needed to bring your stories to fruition. In this workshop, we will also address the writing process itself, including revision and editing, and I will offer strategies and tips to help you meet your writing goals, and resources for submitting work for publication. Writers of all levels and backgrounds are welcome.
Hone Your Craft: A Writing Workshop Wednesdays 6:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Aug. 2-Sept. 27
In this course, we will focus on elements of craft, such as scene, characterization, dialogue, narrative voice, point-of-view, sensory detail, and more. In addition to studying craft and technique, we will carve out extra time for all participants' pages to be read in this comfortable, supportive setting. We will place an emphasis on close, active reading of one another's work, and we will study what it means to read like writers. In addition to providing feedback, I will offer exercises and prompts that will encourage you to generate new pages, and/or develop works-in-progress.
