Celebrating Seuss!
"From there to here, from here to there. Funny things are everywhere." Dr. Seuss.
Our campus will be filled with whimsical creatures and creations on October 31. As we we look forward to Seussical the Musical, Elementary, Middle, and High school students are invited to share in this special celebration by dressing up like their favorite Dr. Seuss character. We will host a campus parade for the Preschool at 9:40am. This day of celebration will build anticipation  for Friday and Saturday's Seussical shows.

Preschool Harvest Festival
After a week of dissecting pumpkins, baking pumpkin seeds, planting various squash and vegetables, strengthening our bodies and increasing coordination using both small and large pumpkins, and studying different farm animals, Valley Christian Preschool students celebrated the fall season with our annual Harvest Festival!  This year we added an on-campus pumpkin patch so the children could review their various science lessons based on the life cycle of pumpkins. The rainy day did not stifle our plans in anyway! We just moved the 25 farm animals into the Fireside Room beside the tot-sized pumpkin patch. Our other activities included colorful pasta necklaces, pumpkin decorating, cookie creations, and the ever entertaining donut dangle.

Arts Integration | 6th Grade
On Thursday of last week, the entire 6th grade had the opportunity to take their study of African geography from the history classroom to the dance floor with our own dance teacher, Samantha Whitley.  6th graders learned some of the foundational movements in African dance, including ending a community dance time in a circle!  Following chapel, the entire 6th grade headed to the music room for a special African drumming workshop with Kele Nitoto in which they were introduced to congas, bongas, djemebes, agogo bells and a plethora of other percussion instruments.  Other than playing a "We will, we will rock you" warm-up, student learned various rhythms in the typical African call and response style, then developing that into polyrhythmic combinations.

Safety
Valley Christian Schools completed our monthly evacuation drills for Preschool and Elementary buildings with an average evacuation time of four and a half minutes, meeting our goal of less than six minutes! In addition, we completed our very first Campus-wide Shelter-in-Place drill, with everyone exceeding the expectations of the Safety Committee of a first time drill.
We continue to be pleased with the execution and seriousness of our staff and students while we perform these important drills.
Ken Walker | Safety Committee Chairman

Sophomores Interact with the Muslim World Through Art
The sophomore Modern World History students have just finished studying the Ottoman, Safavid, and Mughal Empires. Students then traced themes from the 16th century to current events in the Muslim world today. Each student chose a current event and created a corresponding art piece in Islamic style.

Do you want to see how history collides with the present? You can find the sophomore's posters displayed throughout the hallways of the High School building and the SRC. Please come see their excellent works of fan (Arabic term for art.) The exhibit will be displayed from October 31-November 11.
