Commentary     --   Events     --   Your Legislators

For those of you who look forward to Nels Howard's weekly commentary, I have some good news and some bad news.  The good news is that Nels and his wife Linda are in Door County Wisconsin celebrating their 50th Wedding anniversary, and we all wish them a big congratulations!  Now the bad news. Because he is on vacation, he will not be commenting in this week's newsletter.
So I will be commenting on our Annual Meeting and Picnic, which we held at the Lake View Center and Beach  Shelter in Gillson Park this past Sunday.  We had a beautiful day for a picnic and a great turnout.
At our Annual Meeting, we discussed what our organization has been doing to promote Democrats running for office and what we plan to do in the future. At the Picnic, many local politicians and candidates stopped by to meet our members.  They all addressed our attendees and we are lucky to have such a fantastic group of politicians and candidates.
And, of course, w e ate a lot of hot dogs and mingled and talked about how we can change the trajectory of this country by participating in Grass Roots Politics.
We hope that those of you who read this newsletter, but are not yet members, will please join us and become members at whatever level you can  afford. We have a big task in 2018 keeping the North Shore blue and upsetting some GOP Congresscritters in other parts of  Illinois.
One final note:  The  Wilmette Justice Team is fighting to get the Wilmette Village Trustees to opt back into the Cook County Minimum Wage Hike and Earned Sick Leave Law The Wilmette Justice Team is leading a petition drive in support of opting in and  offering y ard signs to anyone interested in this issue. I encourage you to visit their website, wilmettejusticeteam.com,  and join in this fight. Wilmette residents voted over 70% in favor of referendums on these matters, yet the Village Trustees still chose to opt out of the law. I also encourage you to email the Village Trustees and Village President to show them that you want them to reverse their vote and support the minimum wage increase and sick leave.
