Celina Martinez recently completed her traineeship at Presbyterian's Center for Community Health (PCCH) in Albuquerque, NM. PCCH primarily serves vulnerable communities throughout the Albuquerque Metro area, such as the South Valley and the International District. Martinez had the privilege of working on a combination of projects throughout summer 2017, such as helping out with a mobile farmers' market and conducting a descriptive analysis to assess a community's current health status. Celina was primarily involved in creating a resource guide/report for Presbyterian Healthcare System (PHS). This report summarized the best cultural competence practices within healthcare systems, provided a baseline assessment of PHS' own cultural competence practices and its current efforts in place to increase cultural diversity and awareness, and also provided data collection templates that will be used to collect data involving race, ethnicity, and language. Celina would like to thank the staff at PCCH, who she describes as "very kind and are truly committed to helping and serving the local communities." Being able to interact with communities' members directly, and being a part of the PCCH team, has reaffirmed Martinez's passion for public health.
