Panel Discussion To Focus on Opioid Crises

To shed light on the opioid epidemic, Saint Joseph Academy is partnering with Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital for a panel discussion entitled "Heroin, Fentanyl, and Carfentanil: The Triple Threat on Our Doorstep." The event is free of charge and will bring residents, community partners, and local experts together to engage in open conversation about the opioid epidemic. Its mission is to empower community members by connecting them to the resources and information needed to combat this problem.

"Heroin, Fentanyl and Carfentanil: The Triple Threat on Our Doorstep" is set for Thursday, September 21, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the auditorium of Saint Joseph Academy. Although there is no charge to attend, advanced registration is required. Click here for more information and to register online. Please note: The phone number for Rosemary Miles, RN, is incorrect at the link. The correct number is 440-331-0618.

Franciscan Villager Plays Ball!

Ask Dan Kocinski about his four foot by four foot garden plot, and he'll tell you that right from the start he pictured a mini-Jacobs Field/Fenway Park-type stadium at Franciscan Village, 3648 Rocky River Drive. "The first thing I did was make a cardboard pattern for the infield. Then I put that down on the dirt and planted grass everywhere else." In the six weeks it took for the grass to grow, he bought wood for the outfield fences, scoreboard, and dugouts. He painted them and added signs and lettering.

"I also got dirt that had red clay in it, for an extra touch of reality," he added. Local artist Jane Sirovica created the stadium sign and these: bingo night, Sister Hope's Rides, and Sara's Second-Hand Shop. The small playing figures are Indians All Stars: Bob Feller, Lou Boudreau, and Albert Belle. Other players represent different residents and employees, making the line-up on the scoreboard.

"Spoiler alert! We win," declared Dan.
