As recent events have proven, the issue of race continues to divide our community in painful, even frightening, ways. In cooperation with the Women's Intercultural Exchange (
http://www.wi-ce.net), a Charlotte group that works to heal social wounds and bring people of diverse backgrounds together, the Cabarrus College of Health Sciences and First Presbyterian Church are hosting three listening and discussion sessions in Davis Hall. On three consecutive Thursdays
(
October 5, 12 and 19) from 6:00-8:00 p.m., voices from Cabarrus County will join to "listen to one another's hearts" and look for ways that we might heal some of the racial divisions that too often keep us apart. Food trucks will be available outside Davis Hall. Please help us offer the best hospitality we can muster for these important conversations. For more information,
contact Peter Bynum at the church.

"In life and death, we belong to God" Wednesday Night Fellowship Series |
Michael Lindvall once said, "The will of God is an infinitely intricate weaving of incidents and accidents, plans and providence. Sometimes it works through us, sometimes in spite of us, but in all things, it can work for good." While we cannot accurately predict what the future holds, we can make healthcare and end of life plans that reflect what matters to us and our loved ones, plans that reflect God's grace and our identities as children of God. You are invited to join us as we consider how to communicate what's important, not just through written documents, but through open and caring conversations.
During our Wednesday Night Fellowship programming, we will host a five week series beginning September 20th
that will feature presenters who are doctors, nurses, pastors, and attorneys from our church and around our community to share wisdom surrounding healthcare and end of life considerations. The conversations will be lively, healing, informative and uplifting!
9/20/17 - Peter Bynum and Dr. Doug Kelling will lead a discussion on the book, "Being Mortal."
9/27/17 - Carol Hovey, RN and other CHS educators will lead us in a game to raise awareness about end-of-life plans.
10/4/17 - Dr. Randy Schlisher will make a presentation about Palliative Care.
10/11/17 - Rev. Lynne Keel will lead an educational session on worship concerning Funerals & Memorial Services and share planning resources.
10/18/17 - Mark Shelley, Sam Davis, and Holt Morrison will present and host a panel discussion about Estate Planning
Menu for 9/20/2017: chicken pot pie, rice, collards, fruit, dessert.

Irvin Elementary Adopt-A-School Program
|
Help our School partner earn funds for needed school supplies and equipment! By linking your Harris Teeter VIC card to Irvin Elementary (#3799) either online or in person at a store, a percentage of each purchase of Harris Teeter brand items will be donated to our adopted school. Up to 5 schools may be linked to each VIC card, so if you are already supporting another school you can still add Irvin. Linking must be done each year but once completed, the process is automatic with each checkout throughout the entire school year. Local schools have received over $24.6 million since inception of this great program in 1998, so please take a moment and link your VIC card today!

We will be heading back to Haiti to our global mission partner's campus, OFCB ministries, in February 2018! If you cannot attend either of these sessions, please contact Rev.
Lynne Keel for more information.
