All interested parishioners are invited to join the Addiction and Recovery Care Ministry (ARC) of Holy Comforter. Homeless Awareness Sunday
Sunday, September 24
Holy Comforter welcomes Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington for Homeless Awareness Sunday on September 24 at all three Sunday services. The Reverend David Wolf, Executive Director of Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington and Larry Gooch, a successful participant of Samaritan Ministry's Next Steps program, will worship with us. The Adult Forum will also be dedicated to this topic while our Sunday School classes will participate in a mini information-gathering homeless walk-a-thon around our church's perimeter.

Samaritan Ministry is a Diocesan endorsed organization which helps the more than 11,000 people in the D.C. area who do not have a place to call home. 30,000 of these same people are unemployed. Samaritan Ministry empowers people to make positive life changes one step at a time.

To learn more, visit the Samaritan Ministry website HERE and read participant stories HERE. Questions? Contact Candace Dibblee, our parish representative for Samaritan Ministry.

NEWS & FELLOWSHIP

FOYERS Fall-Winter Round
Sign up at the Ministry Fair this Sunday!
Enjoy fellowship and good food in small groups. Foyers meet once a month (at a time scheduled within each group) to share a meal and friendship. It's a great way to get to know people. Both adult groups and groups of families with young children are forming. For the adult groups, there is a new additional option for those who prefer to meet in restaurants. Sign up for the fall-winter round in the narthex this Sunday through October 1 or notify Shelia Creswell. You must sign up to be included in the fall round.
Marathon Bridge
Sign up at the Ministry Fair this Sunday!
Holy Comforter Marathon Bridge season is about to begin! The group meets the first Saturday evening of the month, October through May in members' homes. If you enjoy a pleasant, friendly evening of bridge, please join us. We are always looking for new members. Even if you cannot commit to all 8 months, consider becoming a substitute. We need both individuals and pairs! Contact Luanne or Brian Obert at 703-560-4149 or by email HERE.

Thank You from Pennywise
Pennywise would like to thank the following youth who volunteered their time this summer : Blake Prather-Johnson, Helen Frazier, Elizabeth Frazier, Colleen McGuire, Matt Bacigalupo, Cailean Gordon, Adele Robbins, Joshua Robbins, Tanner Uffelman. We appreciate their hard work, and significant contribution. We welcome them and all youth to join us at any time. Note that Service Hours are available if needed.
Pennywise Needs Volunteers!
Want an easy way to make church friends? Pennywise needs volunteers -- especially on Thursdays when we are open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Once a month you would work a 2-hour shift at the front desk either checking out customers on the cash register or bagging items the customer purchased. Alternatively, if you're looking for something a little more detailed, we have consignment shifts open mornings (only) from 10 a.m. until 12 or 12:30 p.m. The 10-12 or 12-2 shift is ideal for mothers looking for something to do away from the house, as FREE babysitting is offered at the church while you work! Please volunteer 2 hours a month to keep this important ministry going. We are in great need of your assistance and it's a very rewarding way to help the church. Interested? Please contact Linda Khan.
