Dear Friends of Crayons to Computers,

As summer turns to fall and the leaves and weather begin to change, there are also some changes in the works here at Crayons to Computers.  After five plus years serving as the President & CEO of this incredible organization, I am stepping down from this role to relocate with my family to Chicago.  I share this news with very mixed emotions - excitement for what lies ahead in Chicago, but very sad about leaving behind such a tremendous community here in Cincinnati and with Crayons to Computers.

I have been incredibly lucky to have this job.  I have had the opportunity to work with the most amazing staff and an incredibly supportive Board of Trustees.  The team of volunteers who help make the organization run on a day-to-day basis represents all of the best that our community has to offer - dedicated, kind, funny, passionate and committed to all of you and the kids we serve.

There has not been a day that has gone by without my hearing an inspiring story from one of you.  You take some of the most interesting "treasures" from the Free Store and the Mobile Outreach Program and turn them into priceless tools for learning.  As our partners, you ensure that kids have what they need to be successful in school and life and for that I am forever grateful.

I am confident that Crayons to Computers will remain a steadfast champion for you, your schools and the students you serve.  We will continue to work day in and day out to change the trajectory for kids throughout our community - one pencil at a time.

Thank you for letting me be a part of the work that you do and for helping to support this amazing organization.

Your Words Make A Difference

The Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile, Jr./U.S. Bank Foundation has been generously providing Crayons to Computers with an annual grant to provide backpacks though our Free Store and Mobile Outreach Program (MOP) since since 2004. This incredible partnership has provided thousands and thousands of students with the backpacks they need!

As part of our Thank You Note Program, many of you - and your students - recently wrote notes to The Haile/U.S. Bank Foundation, as a way to thank them for their generosity. They - and other donors - have expressed their deep appreciation for all the thoughtful notes they have received and we encourage all of you to participate in this program!

Each time you shop with us at the Free Store or on the MOP, you receive a sheet that lists five of our donors-just five. And, it is just five easy steps to ensure programs like our Backpack Partnership continue:
  • Don't forget to take the Donor Sheet with you;
  • Write a thank you note to each person on the list or have your students help write notes;
  • Bring the notes in addressed and stamped envelopes back to the Free Store or the MOP the next time you shop with us (or mail them to us at Crayons);
  • Have your shopping sheet stamped and double the limits on up to three items when you shop; and
  • Start the process again!
Your words are the heart and soul of Crayons to Computers. It is your generosity in sharing your stories that helps us to convey how important having the right tools is to success in the classroom and life for the 155,000 students we serve.

Teacher Spotlight #5

James Neville, Art Teacher at Rockdale Academy
This month, the art work of local educator and artist, James Neville, will be featured at the  Kids In Need Foundation Gala in Minneapolis, MN. James donated the amazing watercolor piece below, titled "Untamed," as part of a partnership with Dixon Ticonderoga, who is the Fine Art and Craft Sponsor for the Kids in Need Foundation and the Resource Center Network -of which Crayons is a proud member.

As part of this program, we are fortunate to receive a large donation of fine arts materials generously provided by Dixon Ticonderoga. Be on the lookout for new art supplies in the Free Store in the coming months, as well as art workshop opportunities to learn more about how to utilize these materials in your classroom.

We are so fortunate to collaborate with incredibly talented educators and artists like James, who impart the value of art and art education on students and the community!
