I happened to be in the cafeteria during lunch on Thursday when the first snowflake of the season was spotted. Needless to say, the cafeteria was alive with excitement. Hopefully the next snowfall will at least wait until after Halloween!

Next Tuesday, we will celebrate  All Saints Day and Msgr. Joyce will be our celebrant. The students have been busy learning about the saints in preparation for this special day.  Please join us for Mass at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Church if you are able.

During the month of November, we will also feature a different saint every school day during morning prayer and announcements, and in the school lobby. Both the Mass and the daily saint feature are a fun and different way to help the students learn and expand their knowledge about the saints.

Enjoy a restful weekend and we look forward to seeing everyone on Halloween. As a special treat, the students they may wear one Halloween accessory with their uniform.

Peace,

Ann E. Dougal
Principal

From The Classroom of Mrs. Duplessis - Music

Humming Right Along In Music

All of our Pre-K through 8th grade students are busy preparing for upcoming Masses and the Christmas Pageant. We've been hard at work learning favorites such as "Adeste Fideles," "Angels We Have Heard on High," and "Joy to the World."  The students are making great progress already!

In addition to weekly music classes, many students are participating in extra-curricular ensembles: 5th and 6th Grade Honors Recorder and Middle Level Choir. These groups will play a significant role in the Christmas Pageant as well, and we are meeting frequently to prepare. It's going to be a great program - you won't want to miss it!

Although we work on the songs at school, both in music and in the classroom, many students (especially younger children) will benefit from extra practice at home. There is a Music Department YouTube Channel - SMASpringfieldMusic, where all of our Christmas music will be posted in the near future. Please feel free to listen and practice often! Thanks in advance for your help!

We select one from PreK - 2nd grade, one from 3rd - 5th grade and one from 6th - 8th grade. Congrats to  this week's winners!

PreK-4C Halloween Fun

Jack-o-Lantern Spotted in Ms. Enderlin's Class

It was messy and gooey but it sure was fun! That was the overall sentiment in Ms. Enderlin's class as they transformed an ordinary pumpkin into a Jack-o-Lantern!

Nicely done Pre-K friends!

Kindergarten Visitors

Kindergarten Learns About Fire Safey

Our kindergarten students had some guest visitors this week from our firefighter parents. Thank you to Mr. Davis, Mr. Cournoyer and Mr. Hudak for teaching the students about fire safety and answering all their questions. They learned important information about what to do and not do in the case of a fire.

Most of all, the students loved their fireman helmets and the cool pencils! Thank you firefighters for sharing your time with us!

Girls On The Run

Girls On The Run At St. Michael's Academy

Have you heard about Girls On The Run at SMA?

Girls on the Run is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.

Our team meets  twice a week and t he program is taught by certified Girls on the Run coaches who are all volunteers. Through the curriculum, g irls learn life skills through interactive lessons and running games.   At the end of the season the girls will complete a 5k running event with all other Girls on the Run from Western Mass, this gives them a tangible sense of achievement as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals.

Learn. Dream. Live. Run.

Scholastic Book Fair

The Book Fair Is Coming!

Get Ready To Read!  The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to St. Michael's Academy beginning on Monday, November 7th through Thursday, November 10th. There will be no school on Tuesday, November 8th due to parent/teacher conferences but the book fair will be open that day so students can browse while their parents attend conferences.

Volunteers Make a Difference! We will need many volunteers to make the book fair happen!   You can see it on their faces - children love to see their parents volunteering at school. A form was sent home with your child that outlines volunteer opportunities or you can volunteer on-line by  clicking here.

Many hands make light work!

Prayer Corner

St. Michael the Archangel, pray for us!

We pray for all St. Michael's Academy students, families, faculty, and staff, and their special intentions.

Robert Girard
Marguerite Smith
Bill Sullivan
Awilda Oxios
Sr. Christine Lavoie
Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Chicklowski

And we pray in a special way for our recently departed:

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Please remember to keep Miss Brown in your prayers during this difficult time for her. She will be taking an indefinite medical leave of absence.

Our prayers continue to be with Mr. Rancitelli, who is undergoing treatment for a cancer recurrence. We also ask that you keep Mrs. Rancitelli in your prayers as well. She recently broke both ankles and her wrist in a bad fall. Each week, a different homeroom sends him cards. If your family would like to send a card, please send it to school with your child, clearly marked for Mr. Rancitelli. His family has set up a blog to write about this experience.   Click here  to read the blog.
