Environmental Clean Up Project a Huge Success!
|
The
Port of Bellingham has been awarded the 2017 Port Environmental Award by the Washington Public Ports Association for successfully completing one of the largest environmental cleanup projects in state history.
The $32 million Whatcom Waterway cleanup project removed 110,000 cubic yards of contaminated sediment, 5,100 tons of concrete and asphalt rubble, 265 tons of creosote-treated timber and 10,000 tons of polluted soil from Bellingham’s downtown waterfront.

Northwest Washington Fair Tickets for Rodeo, Demo Derby on Sale to Public Now!

Two
Northwest Washington Fair fan favorites that are filled with action, the demolition derby and the Lynden PRCA Rodeo, return to the Bank of the Pacific Grandstand Entertainment Series this year.
Demo Derby is on Mon., Aug. 14.

Whatcom Museum is hosting the second
Bellingham National Juried Art Exhibition and Awards. Featuring more than 60 artworks by 29 artists from around the country, the artwork represents interpretations on the theme of “drawing practice” in a variety of media. The artwork selected features modern ideas of language, writing, notation, mapping, movement, dance, performance, as well as connections to space and architecture

E-Cycle Washington – a Success Story
|
E-Cycle Washington, the state’s electronics recycling program, has been in operation since 2008, collecting more than 345 million pounds of electronic devices and keeping them out of the landfill. In 2016, E-Cycle collected more than 36 million pounds of electronics for recycling.

artners with UW to Improve Health Care for Underserved Rural & Urban Communities
|
WCC has been selected by the University of Washington and the state Department of Health to advance leadership in health care education for Western Washington.
Whatcom president, Dr. Kathi Hiyane-Brown said: “This significant opportunity to partner with one of the nation’s leading medical schools is an endorsement of our leadership in health care education. It also speaks to our success in working with local businesses and organizations to expand health programs, as well as meeting employer needs.”

Port Earns Clean Audit from State
|
The
Port of Bellingham is pleased to announce it has received a clean audit from the Washington State Auditor’s Office. The State Auditor’s Office reviews all state and local government financial records each year to ensure taxpayer dollars are being spent properly. The 2016 Port Audit revealed no deficiencies in the Port’s financial records.

NSA Names Whatcom as One of Four Centers of Academic Excellence in Cyber-Defense National Resource Centers
|
In this role, WCC will function as a “super hub,” helping to support and guide 10 regional centers.

Improvements Planned for Blaine Harbor’s Marine Industrial Area
|
The
Port of Bellingham will rehabilitate three deteriorated piers in Blaine Harbor in support of the working waterfront. The project will open up additional dock space and increase the load bearing capacity of the piers for commercial fishing vessels and maritime industries which rely on these structures to do business.
