All Saints Day coming up

On Sunday Nov. 6 we celebrate All Saint's Day.  We will be acknowledging the death of loved ones this past year.  We want to make sure we include your loved ones.  They don't need to have been members of Joy or had the funeral here. Please send the name and if possible a picture to [email protected] or drop off the information and picture at the office.

Check out the Learning Together Event below.  This is a wonderful opportunity.  We have some cars going so we can share a ride.  But the deadline for registration is Monday Oct. 31. If you have questions talk to Pastor Steve.

Operation Christmas Child

Be a part of the shoebox journey! Joy Lutheran Church Members are invited to participate again this year in Operation Christmas Child. Each Operation Christmas Child shoebox gift takes an amazing journey into the hands of a child in need-and that journey begins with you! Every shoebox you pack through Samaritan's Purse becomes a powerful tool for evangelism and discipleship, transforming the lives of children and families through the
Good News of Jesus Christ. After receiving shoebox gifts, boys and girls are invited to enroll in The Greatest Journey, a 12 lesson discipleship program where children learn to faithfully follow Christ and share their faith with others. Learn more about Operation Christmas Child at samaritanspurse.org/occ. Joy will have shoeboxes available for anyone who wants to participate in this amazing program. Collection week is November 14-21 at Joy!

JOY YOUTH
First Communion Class

Joy Church will be offering a first communion class for students in the 4th grade or older* on Sunday November 6th after the 10:15am worship service. Parents and students are asked to attend together. If a parent is unable to attend please ask a grandparent.
The class will be a potluck starting at 11:30am-1:30pm. Please bring a dish to share.  The First Communion worship service will be Sunday November 13th at the 8:15am or 10:15am worship services. Later dates can be set up, please contact Pastor Steve or Christy with any questions.

*We suggest 4th grade as a time when many young people express and interest in Holy Communion.  But the grade level is not the only thing that matters, parents you know your child best and know their interest.  It is nice to be able to take advantage of teachable moments and offer the gift of the sacrament when they are ready for it.  So if you have questions contact Pastor Steve

Check Out the WELCA Triennial Gathering Bulletin Board

Attention! Women of the Church! Take note of the new bulletin board
display in the narthex hallway. It contains all the information you need to know about the upcoming Women of the ELCA Tenth Triennial Gathering to be held in Minneapolis this coming July 13-16, 2017. Here are ten good reasons to attend the Tenth Triennial Gathering:

10. Hear the Gathering choir raise the roof with our All Anew theme hymn, "Gracious Spirit, Heed Our Pleading."
9.   Worship together with thousands of Lutheran women.
8.   Bring home a tote bag full of fresh new ideas for ministry and action.
7.   Be refreshed and renewed by gathering with thousands of other women who share our faith.
6.   Meet so many of your favorite authors and hear renowned speakers -- all in one place.
5.   Learn so many great new ways to promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.
4.   Make a real difference in people's lives with your generous offering at Closing Worship, which will be divided among the PV for Phebe project, Cherish All Children, and the ongoing ministries of Womenof the ELCA.
3.   Make friends with thousands of bold women from around the country and around the world.
2.   Enliven your heart, excite your mind, enrich your spirit, and exercise your body.
1.    Be made "All Anew" at the Tenth Triennial Gathering of Women of the ELCA!

Registration is now open. Early bird registration of $310 ends January 6, 2017. (After January 6th, registration fee is $350. One-day fee is $175.) To get more information or to register online, go to www.welcatg.org, #welcatg, or call 1-888-947-2233 to register by phone or to request a registration booklet. You may register for the entire Gathering or for one or two days if that is your preference. For more information about what a Triennial Gathering is all about, talk to Mandy Bernick, Kathy Sommer, Marcia Lindseth, Phyllis Hoffmann, or Deanna Roen who have all attended previous WELCA Triennial Gatherings.

Please note: The Northwest Synod Women's Organization is awarding two $200 scholarships to each Conference to help with the registration fee for the Triennial Gathering. Preference will be given to first time attendees. If you'd like to apply for one of the two scholarships being awarded in the St. Croix Conference, please complete the Scholarship Application which can be obtained from Marcia Lindseth or Emilie Horken. Deadline for submission is November 1, 2016. JWELCA will also be raising some monies which we hope will help our Joy women attend the Triennial Gathering which will never be closer to us than Minneapolis is - and Triennial Gatherings should not be missed! They are one-of-a-kind experiences!
