You're Never Too Young or Old
to Volunteer at Noel!
Kalena and Gentry Hanke volunteering in Noel's Food Pantry.
"This may be Gentry's first time actually volunteering in the food pantry, but she has lots of practice according to her mom, Noel's Youth Director, Kalena Hanke.  Read her story below:

"Gentry came home from VBS one evening and went right to work doing what she does best, creating a world for her to play in.  Often times it's playing house with her    kitchen and dolls, or pretending to be a cowgirl, roping up cattle on her horse, but this evening she started setting out all her cardboard and plastic food on her little play shelves.  She requested a clip board and pen and paper and I was intrigued.  Where was her imagination taking her this time?  It was made clear to me when she handed me the clipboard back after she had made various lines and numbered them and told me to sign up to volunteer at her food pantry and I needed to call all her friends to come over to volunteer too.

Earlier during the Mission time at VBS, she had taken a tour of the Food Pantry and she absorbed all the information that was given.  She was more than accurate in her play food pantry.  She had bags, she asked for ID from the clients and she had her carts packed with plastic tortillas, beans and plenty of pizza for those that are hungry.  I asked her that night if she would like to volunteer at the real food pantry.  Her eyes lit up and she said "I can do that now cuz I'm 5?!?!  I can be a helper too?!?!"

I am so thankful we have the opportunity at Noel to teach our children to be a part of something greater than ourselves.  Gentry, at 5 years old, is ready to serve others because she is witnessing the most important people in her life (her church family) serving others.  It also helps that the volunteers at the Food Pantry make it so much fun!"

NCAP Kids Camp -- Created to Create!

This year's NCAP Kids Camp was a big success as Noel Community Arts Program welcomed thirty-eight kids, eight helpers, and three teachers into a week of creating! Our 5-11 year-olds spent each morning exploring how God is Creator, God Created Us, and God Created Us to Create. Through various mediums and musical instruments, we danced, sang, and made art with our teachers (Ms. Susan, Ms. Megan, and Ms. Maria) that reflected how God made "day, night, land, sea, sun, moon, stars, plants, animals and me!" Additionally, we enjoyed daily snacks and games facilitated by our wonderful helpers as well as an end-of-the-week Art Show and Song that was shared with friends and family. A big thanks to all who made the week possible! We are looking forward to next year!

NCAP Youth Workshop
Two weeks following Kids Camp, NCAP hosted a one-day Youth Workshop for eight 12-18 year olds. These junior high and high schoolers took part in four, hour-long classes (Hand-Building Pottery, Song-Writing, Beat-Mixing, and Simple Sewing) as well as contributed to a communal oil pastel project that can be found on the gallery wall of the Noel UMC Worship Center. Much fun was had as students gained an intro-level understanding of these four arts.
