Welcome to WOW's monthly newsletter! WOW is the Woodbury Library, Parks and Recreation Department and Senior Center's collaborative effort to bring free programs to Woodbury for people of all age's enjoyment. You can find more information on these programs and all WOW programs at www.wowbury.org. 
Community Events
Be a Maker at the Woodbury Library
Tuesday, August 1 and Thursday, August 3

People of all ages are invited to come and "make" at the Woodbury Public Library.  The drop-in program is offered on Tuesday, August 1 and Thursday August 3, from 6:00 - 8:30 PM.  A variety of items will be offered for people to create and explore throughout all of the library departments.  On Tuesday, make Cubees, get creative with stamping, build catapults, check out Orbeez, and try a Lego challenge.  On Thursday, make paper circuits, try and build with spaghetti, have fun with a Makey-Makey and create paper helicopters and houses. The library's robots will be out to play with as well.  The program is free and open to all ages, so drop in and explore!

Mystical Traditions in the Three Major Western Religions

The class meets for ten weeks beginning on August 3. For those 60 and up.  This comparative religions course with instructor Bob Guiditta will explore the traditions of mysticism within the three major Western religions - Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

VEHICLES, AND VETERANS FROM MANY OF THOSE ERAS.

T his is a free event. Please come and interact with the many participants that will be onsite. 



All veterans are welcomed and encouraged to bring memorabilia and share memories.

Game Day!

Games all day.  Come spend your day playing all kinds of games with your friends and peers.  We will have giant Jenga, tabletop Connect 4, corn hole, board games, chess and  cards in the morning,  and all this plus beach ball volleyball, pickleball and bingo in the afternoon.  Weather permitting, ping pong will be set up outside...  Hot dog BBQ and potluck at noon for just $1 and a side dish by reservation. Guardian Angels will provide an ice cream sundae bar! Open to all kids age 60 and better.  Cardio Dance and Fitness Fury will take place as usual, and Tai Chi will move to Old Town Hall for the afternoon.  Come have some old fashioned fun!

The Pomperaug Valley Garden Club Cook Book Release Celebration

The Pomperaug Valley Garden Club unveils its recently published cook book, "The Garden of Eating" at the Woodbury Public Library on Monday, August 14 at 3:00 pm.  The cook book was created in celebration of the Garden Club's 90th anniversary.  


The cookbook includes gardening tips, beautiful photographs of old Woodbury and current Pomeperaug Garden Club projects, and a wide assortment of delightful recipes submitted by club members. A sampling of recipes will be served by Garden Club members at the event, and cookbooks will be available for purchase at $10.00 each.

March to the Beat of Your Own Drum

The Grounded Goodwife Duo, Velya and Ehris Urban, offer a program inspired by the wisdom of Henry David Thoreau at the Woodbury Public Library on August 17 at 7:00 PM.  Taking inspiration from the the quote by Thoreau, "If a man loses pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer.  Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away." the interactive program  encourages individuality and asks participants to try something unusual while getting rid of any negative energy, too.  Their engaging PowerPoint presentation will be followed by s smudge stick making workshop.  Space is limited so registration for the program is a must. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and the Virginia Palmer Memorial Fund.

Wildlife Outside Your Window

Educators from White Memorial Conservation Center present "Wildlife Outside Your Window" at the Woodbury Public Library on August 25 at 3:00 PM.  Learn about the interconnectedness of all life in the forest community and how the most amazing animals can be found just outside your window.  In addition to the program, particpants will get to meet several forest residents up close and learn how each species is so important to the community they inhabit.  This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and the Virginia Palmer Memorial Fund.

Flanders Farm to Table Dinner & Auction Event

The culinary talents of several esteemed chefs will be showcased on Sunday evening August 27th as Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust holds a Farm to Table Dinner & Auction on the beautiful grounds of the Van Vleck Farm & Nature Sanctuary in Woodbury.

The night will begin with a cocktail hour, hors d'oeuvres and a silent auction. There will be live music provided by the popular bluegrass band, Zolla Boys and a live auction featuring unique items and experiences following the dinner. This is Flanders major fundraiser of the year with all proceeds benefiting our mission of providing environmental education and the preservation and stewardship of open space.
