Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Recycling Collection Event set for Saturday, July 29, 2017
 
The City of Fort Lauderdale is offering neighbors a convenient and responsible opportunity for disposal of hazardous waste, electronics, clothing, and household goods. Unwanted items will be collected at a drop-off event at Mills Pond Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2017.
 
Household hazardous waste (HHW) includes common household items that contain toxic chemicals and, therefore, need proper handling during disposal.
 
The Salvation Army will be on-site to collect items in good condition, including:
*Clothing
*Shoes
*Linens
*Small household items
*Small kitchen items, and
*Dishes
 
No furniture, mattresses, or other large items will be accepted.
 
Proof of residency in the partnering cities of Fort Lauderdale, Coconut Creek, Coral Springs, Pompano Beach, Lauderdale Lakes, or Tamarac is required (i.e., driver's license or utility bill) for hazardous waste and electronics drop off.
 
There is no residency requirement for donations to The Salvation Army.
 
These drop-off events are critical to protecting the environment by reducing the volume of waste in landfills and preventing the contamination of ground water.
 
Mills Pond Park is located at 2201 NW 9th Avenue (Powerline Road) in Fort Lauderdale.

Join FLPD for National Night Out Against Crime     

Tuesday, August 1 - 5:00 - 7:00 pm - Joseph C. Carter Park
 
Join us for National Night Out Against Crime, a community partnership event with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, on Tuesday, August 1 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Carter Park, located at 1450 W. Sunrise Boulevard.  This FREE event is a great opportunity for families, friends and neighbors to engage and interact with our police officers, learn crime prevention tips, promote neighborhood unity, and build community.  Highlights will include participation by the FLPD Mounted, K-9, SWAT, and Motor Units; a DJ, inflatables, and food trucks; back-to-school giveaways, games, and prizes; plus McGruff the Crime Dog!

Starlight Musicals on Friday nights now
through August 4th     

Each summer, the City of Fort Lauderdale Parks and Recreation Department proudly presents the Starlight Musicals concert series sponsored by Bank of America.  These free outdoor concerts have provided a great way to enjoy the summer with family and friends.
 
The series features an exciting line up of bands and takes place on Fridays from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the football field at Holiday Park, located at East Sunrise Boulevard and Federal Highway.
 
Residents and visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, picnic baskets, and coolers.
 
Upcoming performers include The Fabulous Fleetwoods (July 28), and Brass Evolution (August 4).

David Deal Playday Aug. 5-19

Join us for an annual Fort Lauderdale tradition! The
64th David Deal Playday will feature a variety of events at Carter Park, August 5-19.

Playday was introduced in 1953 by Joseph C. Carter as an opportunity for Fort Lauderdale youth to participate in track and field events.  In 1971, the event was renamed David Deal Playday in honor of David Deal, Sr. a Broward County educator, coach, and community mentor.

Today, David Deal Playday has grown into a multi-event celebration which includes:

Friday Night Sound Waves on Fort Lauderdale Beach

Vending machines are located at Carter Park, 1450  W. Sunrise Boulevard, and Osswald Park at 2220 NW 21st Avenue.

Sewer Main Replacement in Progress
 
A sewer main replacement in the Tarpon River neighborhood is having an impact on several neighborhoods as tanker trucks are being used to vacuum and transport sewage. Neighbors may notice tanker trucks with hoses in manholes until the project is complete.

Parks and Recreation's popular Club 55+ is a program that encourages active adults to enjoy endless opportunities at 11 City parks for a discounted annual membership rate of only $55 for residents and non-residents. Residents may also qualify for a fee reduction.
