I hope this letter finds you enjoying the remaining weeks of the summer holiday.
My name is Mark Hansen and I am the new Head of Lower School at Columbus Academy. I am very excited and honored to join this vibrant school community. Most recently my family and I have been living and working in Copenhagen, Denmark. To learn more about me, you are welcome to view the news story about my arrival on the school's new website and watch an introduction video recently shared on Academy's social media channels.
I would also like to welcome two new faculty members. Ms. Angela Blinn will be a Grade 3 Associate Teacher with Mrs. Kirby Schuchter and Ms. Donna Saide. Ms. Heather Levingston will be the new Grade 5 Reading and Learning Specialist. And returning to the Lower School is Ms. Adrienne Moser as LS Speech Therapist.
Additional changes for the 2017-18 school year include both our Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten programs switching to three classrooms each. To accommodate this adjustment, Mrs. Deanna Robeano and Mr. Mike Weible will be teaching the third section of PreK.
In the coming weeks, you will be receiving important information from Academy. A few details specific for the Lower School include:
- Class lists will be distributed electronically on August 10.
- Our dress code, LS supply lists and other resources can be found at columbusacademy.org/parents.
- The New Family Popsicle Party will be held on Wednesday August 16, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. (additional information from our Admissions Office will be sent to families of all new LS students).
- The Lower School's Meet-Your-Teachers Ice Cream Social will be on Monday, August 21, beginning at 4:30 p.m. with the opportunity to visit classrooms from 4:00-4:30 p.m.
- Classes for all lower school students begin on Tuesday, August 22, which will also be picture day for all lower-schoolers (more details on school pictures to come).
