Quality:  A Culture That Pays

This is a workshop you can't afford to miss!

Quality is imposed on your business in various ways by regulations.  In fact, it's estimated that these regs cost you as much as $10K per employee annually.  Quality is also something that your customers expect from you; so it's a choice on your part to set and produce to those expectations.  Quality is also something you expect from your suppliers and service providers.  But quality does not come by accident.

In this workshop you will learn the very practical aspects of what it takes to establish a quality of culture in your business from the ground up. When done right, quality pays you back. Learn to lead!  Register now!

Upcoming!!!
Mark your calendars.  We're trying to look ahead a bit.

National Manufacturing Day Month

President Obama initiated National Manufacturing Day as October 2 in 2014.  We think it deserves a month.  It's a chance to both publicize and celebrate the role of manufacturing in our country and economy as well as introduce folks to what goes on under their noses that they don't see or realize.  But none of that works without your involvement.  So, we're trying to make it easy for you. Here's an Infographic providing the big picture.  Below are local ways you can get involved.

Plant Tours.  A great way to let the future see the value of actually making things that work and perform critical jobs in their lives. Just click the link to let me know you're interested and we'll do the matching.

Fifth Annual Manufacturers Awards.  Don't miss this one. Thursday, October 5.  Our one social event of the year.  Celebrate!  Good times!  Come on!!!

Third Annual Manufacturers Fun Run for Education .  Kudos to Mastercut Tools for stepping up and organizing this growing regional tradition.

SMT Takes The Lead

Roy Sweatman, Southern Manufacturing Technologies takes the early lead on plant tours by hosting a summer tour for the St. Leo's University Girls Robotics Camp.

SMT also hosted Florida Senator Dana Young, Hillsborough Commissioner Sandy Murman and Florida Makes Executive Director Kevin Carr showcasing why SMT was presented the Governor's Sterling Council Award for excellence in manufacturing.

Florida Students Encounter Barriers to Learning Outside the Classroom

OK folks, we know the single most important barrier to sustained strength and growth in the manufacturing sector is a motivated, trained and skilled workforce.  The Florida Chamber released information on a survey by Scholastic that found Florida educators were more likely to report inadequate access to the internet and other learning resources outside school than educators from other states.

The report was based on a survey of teachers and principals nationwide, including 250 in Florida. According to the survey, 56 percent of Florida teachers reported a lack of family involvement in student learning compared with 48 percent nationwide.

So, we have some work to do.  Depending on your interest level here are a couple hyperlinks that you can drill down into very deeply.  Click for the Teacher and Principal School Report and the Chamber Florida Scorecard where you can look by county in six different categories from education to quality of life.  Research away!  This is an excellent resource.

Support The National MEP Program

The Association needs your help in contacting our legislators regarding funding for manufacturing training and services.  Florida Makes is our MEP agent reporting through the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST).

It is important for legislators to hear from you as they develop the FY18 budget. The House Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies (CJS) Appropriations Committee has already proposed a 23 percent cut to the program in its FY18 budget, down to $100 million from its $130 million enacted level.

Click here to access a form to weigh in.  It's easy.  Just need to add your company information to personalize the letter.

How They Voted and Distinguished Advocates

Check here to see how the Florida Chamber rated your legislator on their pro-business scale during the last session.

The Florida Chamber also identified Distinguished Advocates for their work in the last session.  Congratulations and thank to:
