Tailgating without $30 parking: The Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth's young professionals group is The Red Shoe Society. (What if it were The Red Krocs Society?) It is throwing a big-time event Sept. 30 and it has enough going on to fill every kitchen sink at every area McDonald's. Rise, Rally and Red Shoes features the "Best Tailgate Taste" cookoff ever, TV screens for college football viewing, drinks and live music by Matt Tedder and his band, Fatt Chedder. The Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth provides a "home-away-from-home" for families of children who are receiving medical treatment in local hospitals. The event is family- and pet-friendly. Among the tasting judges are The Capital Grille executive chef Derek Venutolo, Star-Telegram Publisher Sean Burke and Taco Heads co-owner Sarah Castillo. PAVLOV sent over two tickets; you can round up and bring any kid under 12 because they're free.
Ain't (this) Fun? Paramore is playing at Verizon Theater Sept. 30 and you, like Mr. B, may have thought it was a band performing romantic ballads about secret lovers. This Paramore, not paramour, is all about a maiden name. Lead singer, merry maiden Hayley Williams, energetically unleashes rock, alt rock and music to dance by that two of you will enjoy from the VIP suite of jimaustinonline.com. The group's fourth album, Paramore, hit No. 1 on Billboard and the single Ain't It Fun reached No. 2 and won a Grammy for Best Rock Song.  A black-tie affair: OK, so online ordering has become a very big deal and prime delivery can come in minutes, an hour, same day, overnight by plane, auto or drone. But delivery of a penguin? In 1938? Guessing this penguin waddled for weeks before arriving at painter Popper's place. Adventures soon ensued, whether in the original book, Mr. Popper's Penguins, the 2010 movie featuring Jim Carrey or the stage version, running Sept. 29-Oct. 15 at Casa Mañana Theatre. Casa is THE house to see the puppeteer penguins, but a warning: it's only available in black and white. Casa's Lindsey Rushen-ed over a family four-pack of fun for the Sept. 29 opening-night performance.
Making a food run: As you may have guessed (low pay), Mr. B goes to lots of Chamber events, especially the ones with food and drink. The breakfast ones are best. Last week, he wore an oversized sport coat with oversized pockets, ate the fruit and stuffed his pockets with a week's worth of Danish, bagels and muffins. He then departed with a pot of steaming black coffee, but needed about six paper cups to hold it -- and 13 pink packets to sweeten it. The excesses are for future use. Kendall and Steve at Fort Worth Marathon are quite busy for their Nov. 12 run that raises funds to fight childhood obesity, but not too busy to have been appalled by B's behavior. Kendall sent over two stainless 32-ounce Yeti cups with sweetener and the Fort Worth Marathon logo, one for B and one for a reader.

Stately: Transportation was a big focus of Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley, head of the Tarrant County Commissioners, during the Chamber's State of the County luncheon at the Worthington last week.
- "(I) 35 is the backbone of our country; hopefully it will be completed by the time I die...We've been working on Hwy. 360 since I was born."
- Whitley is hopeful entities can work together so there will be 4-to-6-lane east-west and north-south roads in west Fort Worth.
- On Hurricane Harvey: "Unfortunately, it was a good drill for us. We employed our emergency operations system and a back-up system."

Too coincidental: Carolyn Phillips' first Alchemy Pops shop is opening on Main St., next to Crouch Supply Co. Crouch is Carolyn's maiden name.
 Story around the campfire: Mary-Margaret Lemons, the Interim President/General Counsel at Fort Worth Housing Solutions, said she and husband Eric grew up together at Camp Fire First Texas' Camp El Tesoro resident camp. Huh, Mr. B didn't know it was a residential neighborhood, so he asked for an explainer: "It's absolutely the best story, if I do say so myself," she said so herownself. "We started attending El Tesoro in 1991; I went to the resident camp and Eric attended the de la Vida grief camp. We continued as campers (Eric came over to the resident side after a few years) and then met as counselors-in-training when we were teenagers. We worked on staff every summer, but didn't start dating until 2004. We got married in 2007. Here we are 10 years and two kids later still wishing we could spend the summer at camp. A counselor, Shane Mudge and his wife, Diane, are our kid's Godparents."
Texas well repped: The five cities with the fastest population growth since the 2000 census are 1) Fort Worth, 2) Charlotte, 3) Austin, 4) Jacksonville and 5) San Antonio.
Get on the bus, Gus: Mr. B asked Stacie Rodriguez, Chisholm Trail Transportation, how her business was. She replied, "Always moving." Ba-da-bing!

Always another test: The former emergency room space at Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center will be devoted to education, according to Mike Sanborn, President and CEO. Expect a training/teaching center for students attending the UNTHSC/TCU Medical School and a post-graduate education center for medical students.
Never too old ...: Yan Zheng, director of medical planning and design integration for architecture firm Sterling Barnett Little, was snapping photos during a recent hospital tour. "Spying?" Mr. B asked. "Learning," Yan said.
 Never too many chiefs: Cynthia St. John talks leadership; she trains 'em in, or for, the executive suite. Chief this, Chief that. Her company is called Chiefology.
Hail to the Hall: A mother/daughter tandem highlights The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame induction Nov. 21, The 42nd annual Induction Luncheon and Ceremony will feature Reba McEntire (35 No. 1 songs), her mother, Jacqueline Smith McEntire, Mary Burger, Ashley Collins and Margaret McGinley Dickens. Women are recognized "because their lives exemplify the courage, resilience and independence that helped shape the American West." Ann D. Romney, former first lady of Massachusetts, will receive the Gloria Lupton Tennison Pioneer Award. She has raised awareness of multiple sclerosis (MS) and raised funds for its advocacy and research. An accomplished equestrienne, she champions the therapeutic benefits of horseback riding.
$$$ help on the way: Guardianship Services is partnering with the Tarrant County District Attorney's office this fall to start the Financial Exploitation Prevention Center of Tarrant County (FEPC). The goal is to create a unified network of partners committed to the prevention and protection of vulnerable adults against financial exploitation. And to do so with a single-point entry system. The Amon G. Carter Foundation has provided seed funding.
