The Technology Student Association at Winder-Barrow High School participated in its first national competition this summer. They didn't come home empty handed. Tim Cloar finished 10th in the STEM Careers competition. Then Jacob Still astounded judges, advisors and competitors alike with his first place winning 3d printed motorcycle and garage. TSA students, Katherine Black and Trace Freeman, along with their advisor Kimberly Garren were excited to tell their story when they returned from the competition.  Read about the journey...

Results of the 2016-2017 Milestones End of Grade (EOG) and End of Course (EOC) tests, released today by the Georgia Department of Education, indicate broad improvement and growth for Barrow County students from previous years. Georgia Milestones assessments attempt to measure the degree that students have learned and mastered standards in tested subject areas. EOG assessments cover English/language arts and mathematics for students in grades 3 through 8, and science and social studies in grades 5 and 8. Milestones EOC assessments cover content at the high school on eight core classes required for graduation. Individual student performances on the Milestones are classified into one of four categories of student mastery of standards: beginning, developing, proficient, or distinguished.  Read the article...     

The Terry England Leadership Center

Future Farmers of America (FFA) has a rich history in Barrow County, with the first Georgia chapter being established in Statham, GA. History is continuing to be made by Barrow FFA members. Rep. Terry England who is an alumni member of the Winder-Barrow FFA Chapter was joined by dozens of dignitaries, including governor Nathan Deal, and hundreds of FFA members from across the state wearing the signature blue corduroy jacket on Tuesday July 18th to dedicate the new leadership center at the Georgia Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FFA-FCCLA) camp in Newton county in honor of Rep. Terry England.

Rep. England spoke about how the Winder Barrow FFA program transformed him from a shy student into a leader. "FFA gave me the opportunity to learn how to stand in front of people and speak," said England. "My hope is that for decades and generations to come that this facility here recreates the memories that some of the buildings down the hill have created for me." Rep. England has gone above and beyond his assigned position to secure funds needed to make the future of agricultural education a success.

The Winder-Barrow FFA student officers and advisors attended to show support for Rep. Terry England for this honor. The Terry England Leadership Center is a 20,000 square-foot facility featuring a 14,000-square-foot room that will seat as many as 1,400 people or 750 for banquet dining.
