July Checklist

Spring for new sunscreen:
Sunscreens are designed to last up to three years-but they lose effectiveness if left out in the heat. Discard products with a strange odor or changed color or consistency.

Stay safe in the water:
Dry ears thoroughly after swimming to avoid swimmer's ear. Freshwater: Dangerous amoeba can enter through your nose. Don't put your head underwater. Wear a nose clip if you dive or jump in. Shark defense: Don't wear shiny jewelry in the ocean. Don't swim at twilight (sharks are most active then) or if you are bleeding.

Ease your way through airport security:
Little-known prohibitions for carry-on bags include safety razors with removable blades (disposable razors are OK)...golf clubs...bug sprays, sunscreen and creamy or gelatinous foods (peanut butter, jelly, creamy cheeses, yogurt, etc.) i n containers larger than 3.4 ounce.

Summer made easier with these clever products:
Smarter smartphone charging-connect the batteries in your tech devices to a solar-powered hat. Cooler patio parties-fill the inflatable serving bar with ice to keep food and drinks cold. Better beach lounging-beach chairs with drink holders and shade canopies.
