Poly Launches "Pay It Forward" Program!
"Pay It Forward" has been in full motion during its inaugural summer 2017 launch. Through this program, rising Poly juniors have been placed at paid internships across the city. Taylor Nelson, Project Director, has been performing site visits and she has been blown away by the extent of work the students are completing and the exceptional reviews provided from their supervisors. In fact, multiple sites have extended their student internships due to their impressive work.

Some of the projects the interns are completing include: Vernon '19, and Taylor '19, are training in Public Health and Communications to spread awareness and complete projects surrounding the Zika Virus and Naloxone. Additionally, because of the Urban Alliance Professionalism Training provided to our interns, Taylor and Vernon are actually co-facilitating a training to all of the other student interns at the Baltimore City Health Department in regard to workplace readiness.

Rob '19, is interning at BGE and has been determining gas main pipeline routes for STRIDE replacement projects, updating and verifying data within the Optimain asset modeling tool, supporting BGE engineers on an as-needed basis, and participating in pre-planned educational, civic, and social intern events.

These are just a few of the program's highlights...all eight of our interns are learning, growing, and achieving. Pay it Forward has strong support from Poly alumni who are so appreciative of the head start the school gave them in their careers. "We are investing time and money - including mentoring and recruiting companies" states Michael "Mike" Chesser, class of 1966 who birthed the idea for the program.  The Poly Foundation would like to send a HUGE "Thank You" for the continued support from the Class of 1966 and all of our alumni and supporters who makes this valuable program possible!

BPI Students Attend College Tour
19 Baltimore Polytechnic Institute rising seniors and juniors set off on June 18 for the week-long Selective College Summer Tour. Along with their CollegeBound specialists and students from Western HS and Baltimore City College and their chaperones, they toured ten colleges and universities, including: Yale University, Trinity College, Williams College, Amherst College, MIT, Brown University, Princeton University, Lafayette College, Haverford College and Swarthmore College. Our students gained great insights and information about student life, academic programs, research opportunities, admissions requirements, as well as unique features of these institutions and the vast financial assistance they are able to provide. With the generous support from the Poly Foundation, our students were able to explore a range of highly selective institutions- from small liberal arts colleges to larger research universities- all with tremendous resources to meet students' demonstrated financial need. On each campus, students spoke to current college students, attended information sessions, listened to panel discussions of college students, and most importantly, experienced a glimpse of college life.

Poly/City Golf Tournament
The 30th Annual Poly-City Golf tournament is in the books. 114 players gathered at the Country Club of Maryland on a typical warm summer's day with expectations of an enjoyable cookout lunch with many of our friends and colleagues. Lightening and weather made for an interesting schedule of play, but Mike Healy and his staff did a yeoman's job adjusting the scores and handicaps and providing tournament results.  Click here for all of the results, photos and details!
