Fall 2017 Mayor's Networking Business Breakfast


An bi-annual event held by the Mayor and members of Council in conjunction with the Brock Economic Development Advisory Committee, in which businesses are invited to attend this free event to network, be updated on current planning and economic initiatives taking place in the Township, and learn about business services and funding opportunities available.

Fall Fitness & Sport Programs 

The Fall Fitness & Sport Schedule is here and has a variety of classes to help you work towards your goal of being active and staying fit.

Adult Basketball:  Recreational Basketball. Teams will be made as people arrive for scrimmages. No referees just honest players. Fall program will run from September 20 - December 13 on Wednesday evenings from 8:15 p.m. - 9:15 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. - 10:15 p.m. at the Brock High School Gymnasium. Participants must be at least 16 years of age. A $20 pre-registration fee is required.   Registration will only be accepted online.

Adult Volleyball:  Fun recreational volleyball. Teams will be made as people arrive for scrimmages. No referees, just honest players. The Fall program will run Monday evenings from September 11 - December 11 at 8:15 - 9:15 p.m. and 9:15 - 10:15 p.m. at the Brock High School Gymnasium. Participants must be at least 16 years of age. A $20 pre-registration fee is required.  Registration will only be accepted online.

Gentle Fit:  Gentle Fit is ideal for older adults and those who are starting an exercise program. The class provides a challenging, effective workout at a gentler pace and includes cardio conditioning, strength/endurance/power training as well as balance, flexibility, and stretching while enjoying good music and the company of friendly participants. Gentle Fit is open to all ages. $5 drop in fee per participant. This program will September 9 - December 16 at the Manilla Hall, Saturday Mornings from 8:15 a.m. - 9:15 a.m.

Kickboxing:  Are you ready to kick your fitness into high gear? Warrior Fitness Kickboxing and MMA (mixed martial arts) Conditioning will help sculpt your body into a fantastic new you! Each authentic kickboxing workout will leave you feeling great as you kick and punch away your stress and extra pounds. Start burning 800+ calories per workout! No experience necessary. Taught by certified Fitness Kickboxing Canada Instructors. Kickboxing is open to those 14 years of age or older. $5 drop in fee per participant.  Kickboxing Runs Tuesdays from 8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at the Sunderland Memorial Arena from September 5 - December 12, 2017.

Pickleball: Recreational Pickleball. Teams will be made as people arrive and rotate through round robin games.This program will run Wednesday evenings at 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Brock High School Gymnasium from September 20 - December 13, 2017.
A $20 pre-registration fee is required.  Registration will only be accepted online.

Warrior Fitness:  Are you ready to kick your fitness into high gear? Warrior Fitness is a fat incinerating high intensity interval training that will give you that lean looking body you've always wanted! Warrior Fitness combines strength, core, and Mixed Martial Arts Conditioning with High Intensity Cardio. You'll burn body fat and lose inches like never before! Bring a mat and water! This program is open to those 14 years of age or older. $5 drop in fee per participant. Warrior Fitness Runs Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Sunderland Memorial Arena from September 5 - December 12, 2017.

Yoga: We will bring focus to finding the connection between our breath, mind and body as we flow through a series of yoga postures that will leave you feeling calm, focused and energized. Classes are for all levels - no yoga experience necessary! Bring a yoga mat and water! Yoga is open to all ages. $5 drop in fee per participant.
Fall Fitness Class Yoga runs from September 5, 2017 - December 14, 2017.
  • Tuesdays at the Beaverton Harbour from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (Weather permitting). In case of inclement weather, class will be moved to the Beaverton Town Hall.
  • Tuesdays at the Sunderland Town Hall from 7:45 p.m. - 8:45 p.m.
  • Wednesdays at the Manilla Community Hall from 7:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
  • Thursdays at the Rick MacLeish Memorial Community Centre (Cannington Arena) from 6:15 p.m. - 7:15 p.m.
Zumba:  Founded in 2001, Zumba Fitness is a global lifestyle brand the fuses fitness, entertainment and culture into an exhilarating dance-fitness sensation! Zumba exercise classes are "fitness parties" that blend upbeat world rhythms with easy-to-follow choreography, for a total-body workout that feels like a celebration. $5 drop in fee per participant. Classes will run on Monday evenings from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Rick MacLeish Memorial Community Centre (Cannington Arena) starting September 11 - December 11, 2017.

Pilates: Pilates is a form of full body exercise that develops Strength, Control and Concentration. Classes are suitable for all ages and abilities. Benefits of a regular Pilates practice are: Longer Leaner Muscles, Proper Alignment, Core Stability, Injury reduction, Flexibility, Endurance, Stress Reduction. All you will need is a Mat and a good attitude!$5 drop in fee per participant. Classes will be run on Thursday evenings from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the Rick MacLeish Memorial Community Centre (Cannington Arena) starting September 14 - December 14, 2017.
Reminder to Taxpayers

The second installment of the 2017 Final Tax Bills are due on or before 

September 22, 2017 

Payment can be made at most Financial Institutions or at the Municipal Office, Cannington. (Telephone/Online Banking is available through most major banking institutions).  Please mail your payment early or pay in advance if paying at the bank.  Payments delayed in the mail or at the bank and received after the due date are subject to late payment charges.  A drop box is available at the Municipal Building for after hours.  (No cash in drop box please.) 
You can pay your taxes with Visa or Mastercard using a third-party credit card company.  Payments made through Plastiq will incur a fee.  View their terms and conditions at www.plastiq.com.  This option is available online ONLY.  Please allow sufficient time for your payment to be received in the Municipal Office by the due date.
 
A penalty of 1.25 % will be applied on the first day of the month following the due date and the first day of each calendar month thereafter in which default continues.  

Additional Payment Options
If your account is current, we offer a monthly Pre-authorized payment plan option which is a very helpful budgeting tool.  We also offer Pre-authorized payments for the full amount of your four installments per year.
 
If your account has fallen behind, we now offer a Pre-authorized arrears plan.  Contact the Tax Collector today to arrange a monthly payment amount that will work for you, and pay down your tax arrears.  All penalties must be paid prior to any portion of a payment being applied to the tax arrears.  


Low Income Seniors Property Tax Rebate
A $250.00 Property Tax Rebate is being offered to home owners whose principal residence is the property being applied for, who are 65 years of age or older, and who are currently in receipt of the Guaranteed Income Supplement, (A copy of your GIS renewal award letter MUST accompany the application) . Applications and details of the program may be obtained at the Municipal Office or on-line at www.townshipofbrock.ca Deadline for application is September 30th of each year.

The collaborative program engages Canadian youth, families, and communities across the country through travelling science exhibitions, a mobile makerspace, innovation festivals, a digital storybook, and much more.

Annual Terry Fox Run 

Beaverton's Terry Fox Run will take place Sunday September 17th at the King Street Park across from the school.  Registration will open at 8:00 a.m with a group start at 9:00 a.m.  Please come out to join us this year with your family, a friend, neighbour or your dog.  Walk, run, or ride either a 10km or 6km course.  An onsite donation can be made or pledges can be collected using a pledge sheet or register online at www.terryfoxrun.org and fundraise online.  There is no registration fee for this event or minimum donation. 
 
Please note, we are the only Terry Fox Run in all of Brock Township!  Make the trek to Beaverton and "Let's stomp out cancer together!"
 
T-shirts will be available for sale the day of the run or can be pre-ordered online.  Enjoy a FREE BBQ for all participants at the park.  For more information, please call
