Behaviors - not literacy - bring true change with personal finance
|
Mariya is a Money Coach student through Teens Grow Greens this summer. She tells her Coach Rebecca Murray that peer pressure can make it difficult to maintain her budget. |
|
"Financial literacy is the easy part. Behavioral change is what matters most. That's what led me to do some research on the psychology of being a teenager."

"Clueless about money": a Millennial without financial education shares the struggle
We often focus on the value students get from financial fundamentals and mentoring. But what about those countless students left to learn on their own?
This summer, our marketing intern, Paola, a student at Marquette University, shared her own awakening in personal finance.
In this blog, she gives a sobering reminder of the challenge too many teens and young adults still face when they're missing financial guidance. Paola wanted this to act as a reminder of the value and impact we can have when we help young people take control of their financial futures.

Volunteer Marc Colletti, left, answers questions on credit reports from Jeff Wojcik's juniors at Milwaukee Community Cyber H.S. Paola, our intern and a college student, writes that many of these same questions plague her and her peers. |

Murray Friedman, Joe Schlidt & Dan Tranchita: 3 leaders cycle off our Board
Just yesterday, we held our last board meeting with three irreplaceable members. Murray Friedman, Joe Schlidt and Dan Tranchita each finished their impressive terms. All three served as Board President at one point. Our organization would not be where it is today -- and where it will be tomorrow -- without their insight and leadership. Thankfully, all three will join our Advisory Council. We hope you will join us in thanking Dan, Joe and Murray for their compassion, energy and time toward improving teens' lives!

Supporter spotlight: Catholic Community Foundation invests in teens
The Catholic Community Foundation has been a substantial supporter of connections with schools and students in our Money Sense program. Since 2013, the Foundation has directly empowered nearly 300 teens with financial education programs shared at schools such as Messmer H.S., Pius XI Catholic H.S., St. Anthony H.S. and St. Joan Antida.
Their generosity is part of a wider effort to "restore hope and to make life better for children, for families, and for people of all ages who face poverty, discrimination and violence."
