NWIL Discipled by Jesus Conference
Speaker: Rev. Hal (and Debbi) Perkins

This conference is a key component to reaching our 2030 district vision.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?  Pastors, discipleship leaders, SDMI presidents, and followers of Jesus who are passionate about knowing Him and becoming like Him, and then helping others do the same.

Christians can be discipled by Jesus.  Jesus deeply desires to disciple His contemporary followers.

He wants to help us dialogue and honor His nature, to see and celebrate His current activity, to hear and respond to His voice, to know and commit to His specific will, and to know and walk in faith for His promised power.

He can and will do all this by His Spirit, through His Word, and through His Body for those willing to "be with Him". .. that is, to consciously hang out (abide) in His presence ... just like Peter, James, and John did. Those who are truly being discipled by Jesus are being equipped to disciple others just as they have been discipled. Ultimately, through intentionally multiplying the numbers of those who invest much "face time" hanging out with Jesus, the fruit of abiding will be great, and Jesus will build His church through His increasingly Christlike followers.

Hal and Debbi have given 40 years in studying and strategically applying the principles of making disciples that Jesus modeled and commanded of His followers. Both formally and informally, they relationally discipled their four children (now all in full-time Christian ministry) and those in their churches willing to invest time in their own relationship with Jesus and then to help others. HeartWalk Foundations

In 1969 Hal was dramatically called into professional ministry. He and Debbi began their first full time pastoral role in June 1 of 1970 and concluded 40 years of pastoral ministry on June 30, 2010. They have been married 41 years. At marriage, Hal was a math teacher and coach. Debbi finished college to become an elementary teacher.
During their 40 years of professional ministry, Hal and Debbi served five Nazarene churches as senior pastor. Debbi taught in both public and Christian schools, served as administrative assistant to the Lieutenant Governor of Oklahoma, and ministered as a chaplain in 10 corporations.

Crisis Care Kits Needed
Thousands of Crisis Care Kits have been sent to south Texas and Florida. These disasters have virtually emptied Nazarene Compassionate Ministries' warehouses, and NCM is encouraging churches to assemble additional CCK's to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma, as well as future disasters in the U.S. and around the world.

NYI - ALLIES
Saturday, September 30 is Team Day! As always, this is a big day for our district, and especially NYI!  After the spectacular time we had at camp, Team Day will be an incredible time to remember how we have been called to participate. Every teen, youth worker, NYI president, and youth pastor has been called to be a foretaste of God's glory to our cities, and a refreshing reminder of His good news.

Often we want to participate, but don't know how. On Team Day, after our inspiring opening session by Dr. Gustavo Crocker, all ALLIES will descend upon the Refuge room for games, worship, workshops, discussion, and plenty of time to catch up with your ALLIES. During our workshops, we will learn from our gifted NYI leaders about how to participate individually, as a youth group, and with all of our NWIL ALLIES. See a full list of all workshops below.

Everyone should bring $5 for the new NYI ALLIES T-shirts. Also, lunch will be provided with a suggested donation of $5.

Can't wait to see you there. We are ALLIES!

NYI President

-Ministry Call-
NMI with the collaboration of NYI and SDMI has been trying to compile a list of children and youth who have expressed a call into ministry. The goal of NMI's Ministry Call is to educate, inform and guide those children and youth called into ministry get as much help in following through with those calls. Being able to pray for them by name and introducing them to opportunities to develop in their particular area of ministry.

If you know of a student who feels called into ministry please let Ronda Hollars know by giving her a call at 815-875-1900
or by email Ronda Hollars
Sunday School Discipleship International

"Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."   Matthew 28:19-20

As you are going,
THINK BIG: Every relationship, every interaction, all inclusive.

And make disciples,
START SMALL: You. Be one. Be a Christ-like disciple. Re-present Jesus.

Baptizing them, immersing them in Jesus,
GO DEEP: Pray. Empty yourself. Sacrifice.

Freedom Sunday

Over the past three years, more than 400 Nazarene congregations around the world have participated in Freedom Sunday, a day set aside for prayer, worship, and support around the crisis of human trafficking, which enslaves as many as 45.8 million people globally, according to the  2016
Global Slavery Index.

This year, Nazarene churches are encouraged to participate in Freedom Sunday on September 24, 2017, the last Sunday of that month.

The Church of the Nazarene's participation in Freedom Sunday began in 2014 in coordination with other denominations within the Wesleyan Holiness Connection (formerly Wesleyan Holiness Consortium). That same year, the Church of the Nazarene's Board of General Superintendents endorsed the Declaration for Freedom, a document drafted by the Wesleyan-Holiness leaders, including Nazarene representatives.

In the past, Freedom Sunday took place on the first Sunday of Lent. This year, the event was moved to the last Sunday of September to enable churches that plan traditional Lenten services to participate.

Congregations are encouraged to plan a Freedom Sunday at any time that works in their calendar. Freedom Sunday planning resources are available as free downloads through Nazarene Compassionate Ministries at ncm.org/freedomsunday.

Organic Church Planting
Organic Church Planting is Coming Your Way!!

On August 18-19 a new cohort of church planters (Rita and Pat Lovell in Peoria Heights, Ronda Hollars in Malden, Tammy Shane in Wyoming and Kewanee and Trisha Wilson in Geneseo) began a journey with Coach Darrell MacLearn from New Church Specialties. Please join us in praying that God will again use His Servants to bring in a great harvest as we continue to blanket Northwestern Illinois with the seeds of the Gospel. They will meet quarterly over the next two years for training and coaching as they plant where God leads them. As you pray for them, ask the Lord of the harvest what role He would have you play. This is a work for ALL to do.

"The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his ha rvest field." Luke 10:2 NIV
