THE VESTRY NEEDS YOU

The Nominating Committee of the Vestry is currently soliciting nominations for Vestry membership. Soon, we will need to elect four parishioners to three-year terms each, and one parishioner to a one-year term. This is an especially important and exciting time in our parish life to be a member of the Vestry as it works with the Discernment Committee in its search for a permanent Rector. We ask that you prayerfully consider submitting your name as a nominee no later than Friday, November 11. Please contact Pat Bruce or Lyndon Shakespeare if you are interested or would like to discuss your possible membership in this ministry.

Holy Comforter's Chorister program is expanding to include boys with changed voices. Teen boys will rehearse on Thursdays from  6:00 to 6:30 , and sing with the Choristers on Sunday mornings at the 9:00

Come celebrate autumn and its imagery with Voce! The centerpiece of our program is Brahms's moving Alto Rhapsody, also featured are the partsongs of Brahms and Schubert, and Lauridsen's contemporary setting of poetry by Robert Graves. All are welcome! Tickets on sale through the Voce website and at the door: Adults $25; Seniors (62+) $20; Students $10; Under 18 free.

Because we come to the Table and are fed through Jesus Christ, we are able to go out into the world and do the work God calls us to do. We often here the words, "Walk in love as Christ loved us, and gave himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God." How do we walk in love? How do we give of ourselves to God. Let's talk about how we walk with God as a community.

Church of the Holy Comforter, in partnership with the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation, presents an all-day retreat with Father William Meninger on Models of Contemplation (contemplative prayer methods). Father Meninger illuminates models of natural and supernatural contemplation and explores many forms of contemplation found in spiritual traditions through the centuries. All volunteers who work with children and/or adults should have this training. Coffee and breakfast food will be provided for the morning session; sandwiches and drinks for the afternoon session. The training is free. Register online here.

Sunday, October 30, 5:30-7:00 p.m.
We invite all families to bring their pumpkins and join their Holy Comforter friends in a seasonal gathering. The event will start with the carving and decorating of our Halloween pumpkins as well as some pumpkin-themed games, and culminates with prayer over a shared potluck dinner. Pumpkin carving/decorating will take place in the lower level of Rodman House with a potluck dinner following in McGill Hall. BBQ will be provided. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share along with a pumpkin to carve or paint (all pumpkin decorating/carving supplies will also be provided.) Please RSVP to Kristen Long by October 26 so we can plan accordingly.

Our Daily Bread is now Britepaths. Its program and mission remain the same, but its new name expresses its customized mentoring approach and a guiding light that shines on a brighter future for those it serves. Please pick up a non-perishable food item to include in our grocery bags. To volunteer to shop, pack, or deliver groceries, please sign up in the Narthex or contact Susan McGuire or Chris Ostendorff.

Please join us for coffee and fellowship on the second and fourth Thursday of the month. We will meet in the Lillian Croy Room, near the church office. Childcare will be available just across the hall in the Childcare Center. Join us as we discuss how we can build community and support among fellow Holy Comforter mothers. If you are interested in joining us, please contact Virginia Harris so that we can plan appropriately for materials and childcare. Of course, last minute attendees are always welcome!
