Dear Neighbor,
Florida Neighborhoods Conference Video Recap
Florida Neighborhoods Conference Video Recap
Sarasota County recently hosted the 20th annual Florida Neighborhoods Conference (FNC) with over 250 attendees, speakers and volunteers. It was a successful learning experience of 24 workshops and fun celebration by neighborhood leaders from across the state dedicated to empowering residents to be more effective in leading their communities.

The All State Neighborhoods Team Award was given to Ken Buck, of Plantation Golf & Country Club. Mr. Buck is the Chairman of the Lakes Committee and was recognized for his hard work on improving the environmental and water quality of the community. He organized volunteers, mapped water features, coordinated with local government for improvements, and educated neighbors about the community's environmental efforts.

The Florida Neighborhoods Conference, Inc. is an organization of current and retired municipal neighborhood services professionals from around the State of Florida.  Its mission is to provide information and networking opportunities to our state's residents.  The group was founded by neighborhood outreach staff from various Florida communities in 1996. Watch for an announcement in the coming months about the location of next year's conference.

Neighbors Ask

Neighbors often ask Neighborhood Services how to look up official records including plats, covenants and deed restrictions. Follow the steps below to search the Sarasota County Clerk & Comptroller Official Public records:

  1. For Official Public Records through the Sarasota County Clerk, access at http://clerkpublicrecords.scgov.net/.
  2. On the welcome page, click Official Records drop down to search official public records. On the search page, you can look up by Party Name, Date Filed, Instrument Number or Book and Page Number.
  3. You may select the Document Type in the dropdown for specific types of records, or put in the name and select "search" to see all cumulative records under the legal name.
  4. If you select the document icon to the left, you can then save and print the item as a pdf.
  5. For Plat Records, go to http://www.clerk.co.sarasota.fl.us/subcondo/platinq.asp.
  6. In the search page, select whether you are looking for Condominiums or Subdivisions. Type in the name of the condominium or subdivision plat. (Note: It does not always work if the original plat name is not the final name of the subdivision you know and see on the entry sign.)
  7. You can verify the subdivision name from the property record page of the Sarasota County Property Appraiser for subdivisions at http://www.sc-pa.com/home.
  8. Once you access the plat records, there are images that you can view individually, and print as a pdf.

Note: This is not legal advice, nor does it guarantee all information on the topic. You may want to speak with someone at the Clerk's office to confirm whether you have all the information or consult a legal expert or title company who may be more familiar with performing title searches.
