Prerna Singh, Brown University, compared the success and failure of the smallpox vaccine in 19th century Calcutta and Canton to show that new medical technologies must be embedded in existing cultural norms to be effective.

 Islam awarded Prize for Water Creativity

, University of Maryland at College Park,
who were awarded the Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water for developing a model that uses chlorophyll information from satellite data to predict cholera outbreaks. I
slam, who directs the Boston Water Group, has applied the findings to the Bay of Bengal.

Sarani Jayawardena, Harvard College '17, spent her summer researching how government-issued history textbooks in Sri Lanka have changed and how they depict ethnic minorities during the course of the civil war and afterward.
