The St. Michael's Angels brighten
the Toronto West Kidney Walk
For Carmen Morris, the best part of her job is "being able to do the small things that will impact a patient's quality of life and give them hope." A social worker for the Diabetes Comprehensive Care and Nephrology program at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, Carmen is constantly looking for ways to improve the lives of those affected by kidney disease.
When she began working with the St. Michael's nephrology department in 2006, Carmen immediately saw how The Kidney Foundation could help positively impact those in her care. So, in 2008, Carmen rallied her colleagues, her patients and their families to form a Kidney Walk team.
No longer is a suntan considered a healthy look. With the depletion of the ozone layer, which filters ultraviolet (UV) light, there is an increased incidence of skin cancer in the general population. As a transplant recipient you are even more vulnerable because your immune system is suppressed. Your risk of developing skin cancer will be much greater if you do not protect yourself.
Six Swimmers to Relay Across Lake Muskoka in 2nd Annual Organ Donor Swim
On Saturday July 29, six swimmers will relay-swim across Lake Muskoka (30km) to raise awareness for organ donation. In its second year, the swim, in partnership with The Kidney Foundation of Canada, is also raising funds to send kids who have had organ transplants to Camp Kivita, a summer camp in the Muskokas.
