Greetings!

Please join us on Tuesday evening, September 12th at 7:30PM for our monthly meeting at the Harborview Health Center, 178 Ogden Ave at Franklin St - 1st Floor Cafeteria.

Our guest this month is the owner and architect for 511 Palisade Ave (the Oasis Bar building). They will be presenting their plans for their redevelopment of the building and are seeking some zoning variances (the building is in the R2 zone). We will also be discussing plans for the upcoming Park Fest & Flea Market and providing neighborhood updates.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
30th Annual Park Fest & Flea Market and Gazebo Dedication!

The 30th Annual Park Fest & Flea Market will be held on Saturday, September 23rd in Riverview Fisk Park (Ogden Ave between Griffith & Bowers Streets). Yes, for those of you who are counting, we missed holding this wonderful event last year because of scheduled construction of the Gazebo, but we are back stronger than ever this year.

Want to clear out your gently used items - purchase a space at the Flea Market. Easily r egister for a space using this link
10'x10' Spaces are $25 for non-members, $20 for members. (no food sales allowed) RNA will have breakfast and lunch available for purchase.

In addition to all the vendor booths, music and children's activities, we will also be dedicating the new Gazebo to Maria Tuzzo, a founding member of Riverview Neighborhood Association who spent countless hours volunteering in our community including serving as the registrar for the flea market until her death in 2011.

The dedication ceremony for THE MARIA TUZZO VOLUNTEER PAVILION will take place at 11AM during the Park Festival on Sept. 23rd (rain date, Sunday Sept. 24th).  Please join us and the mayors office as we honor Maria and her spirit of volunteerism.

Zoning Board hearing updates

The public hearing on the zoning application for 520 Palisade Ave (Old Firehouse) and 444 Palisade Ave was held on September 7th.

Due  to overwhelming opposition from the neighbors within 200' (and their supporters in the community)  who came to the 9/7 meeting, the application for 520 Palisade was adjourned to the 10/19 ZB meeting.  The developer and the neighbors agreed to meet again in an attempt to come up with a building plan that does not have such a detrimental impact to the neighbors on Ogden Ave in terms of building height and rear setbacks.  Anyone who wishes to speak in favor or in opposition to this development application, will need to attend the carried hearing on October 19th at City Hall (280 Grove St) 6:30pm. There may be changes to the current plans by the October meeting.

The application for 444 Palisade (red Victorian house at the corner of Palisade & Griffith St) was approved for 9 units and includes preserving and restoring the historic facade of the existing building.

RNA is looking to expand it's development and zoning oversight committee, if you are interested in joining please email to [email protected]

JC Fridays Partnership Yields Great Evening

RNA and MAITH (Music And Arts In The Heights, founded by Height's resident Charles Czarnecki)  in collaboration with 107 Bowers St art gallery presented  the artwork of Jerry Khan and a jazz trio with Seth Myers, Nial Djuliarso, & Iman El Hassan  for the Fall JC Fridays, a citywide celebration of the arts, held on Sept 8th.  A steady flow of visitors came through and took in the artwork, great music, fabulous company and breathtaking views of the skyline and downtown.   Thank you to Charles for opening up his loft and hosting this excellent Riverview Arts District event.

SAVE THE DATES - CANDIDATE FORUMS

Heights Votes, RNA and other Heights organizations will be hosting two candidate forums - one for the Ward C & D council candidates (the two Wards that cover the RNA boundaries) on Tuesday, September 26th from 7PM to 9PM and a Mayoral Candidate forum on October 5th from 7PM to 9PM.  These forums will focus on issues of greatest interest to Heights voters. We encourage all who care about our community to come out and learn more about the candidates who are running for these offices.  Election Day is November 7th and the deadline to register to vote is October 16th.
